Twitter: Stephen Jones on Malik Davis Hip Injury "Could be out some time"

Pittsburgh running back Israel Abanikanda broke Tony Dorsett's single-game school rushing record Saturday, running for 320 yards and six touchdowns in a 45-29 victory over Virginia Tech.

Dorsett set the previous record of 303 yards rushing against Notre Dame in 1975. Abanikanda's six rushing touchdowns also ties an ACC single-game record (set in 1981) and a Pitt single-game record (set in 1910).
almost certainly will be his career highlight

Someone beat me to this in the other Malik Davis thread, but...

How does a RB get an injury this serious on a Friday practice, a day before they get on a plane? Did someone on defense lay a hit on Davis they shouldn't have? I always thought this was the "light" practice day. Could be mistaken.

I remember the Jets were excited about him but he didn’t stick there, or GB or SF, or here, is because he’s a liability in pass protection, much like Blue.

The Cowboys released him the same day as the Chiefs released Demercado and then, the next day, the Cowboys picked up Demercado and put him on he 53 man while Izzy was resigned to the practice squad.

Demercado is an excellent blocker, is sure handed and is reliable. That’s why he’s now RB2 and will be on the gameday active list Sunday

Izzy may be called up as RB3 next week but if they want him for Sunday he has to be moved up by tomorrow afternoon

Yeah, where is the tape of Blue missing his pass protections because I can show you his excellent pass protection blocks.

Bummer. He is one of my pet cats and he keeps getting the worst luck possible. Dude is a survivor, looking forward to seeing him come back. I just hope it’s this season.

The 411 on Izzy was pass protection issues.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while

You’re wildly biased on this topic, as you well know, but almost every draft profile talked about his ball security and his blocking being serious opportunities.

This is not news and it’s not controversial. It’s just facts.

Given the OT situation and Smith being out, I’d rather have the more reliable blocker. Not worried about having a more dynamic runner.

that's a tough one -- you lose your backup RB -- that is not superhard to replace.

But you also lose his ST play -- that makes it a harder replacement -- you need someone who does both.

Before people start to make suggestions -- you gotta understand that any former #1 who is a bit older is not going to fit that profile. At least for this week, we likely give Williams a heavy load of carries -- Luepke seems the obvious replacement if you are in a passing formation.

Gotta figure out how to use another 2 next week. May not be on the roster.

Well apparently Emari is a pretty damn good blocker and he has some speed so building her bag I mean I feel bad for Davis but Emari could be a better player and now he's got his opportunity to just Wally Pip Davis..

Yeah I can’t say I know anything about him, but….here we go. It’s fine. I like the team but I don’t want to be pushing the depth. Happens though I suppose.

Demarcado plays STs.
