Stephen: Kevon and Heath will compete to win a safety job

Or Tavarious Moore!
billy--- i would be excited about Tavarious...just seeing the potential...but potential as we know is not a guarantee....i hope cowboys go for it this year and get ET...then instantaneously our backfield is elite

I agree with you, but the wild card is how much the Cowboys feel the need to go after a receiver. I tend to favor not going for a receiver high, even though there is some risk to that now that Dez is gone. But I also think there is real potential to be better without Dez because Dak and Linnehan will feel less pressure to get the ball to a particular player, and feel more free to just go to the open man.

True, It was glaring last year, and Dez criticizing the offense scheme after the season was over probly why they bounced..However what he said prob true..lol..

Linehan got stupid first of last year and proceeded to find new ways to fail..I think he had to eat some of Stephens and JJs crap on the oline and it blew him up some..That and you are right putting up with Dez wanting the ball every 5 min..

Still perplexed why Dak and him couldnt hook consistently. WR IS important but I see four to five receivers in the draft that are actually better fits..Moore is interesting but we can get value and skill at wr later.

But when have we invested in a safety? Nearly every position on this roster has had significant picks attributed. Name last safety drafted in 1st 3 rounds. 4 rounds?

I think we have in the 4th round, although even that's been several years. Owasu Ansah (sp?) was a 4th rounder I think. But you are right that we haven't put a high draft priority on safety. At least not since Roy Williams. The fact that the team was willing to talk to Seattle about Thomas suggests they may be a little more serious about it now, but I still don't see it rising to the level of a pick in the first 3 rounds this year given some of the other needs.

I AINT buying Thomas..To me its a bad buy..One He has started to become an injury issue, 2. The financial side is prohibitive and you are negotiating again in a year if you cant work that out first. 3. We have too many needs to give up a 2 this year..I saw some noise about a three but that still will hurt the cause..I believe we must draft four players in the need category min, and six to cover another lbr and a rb..My take..Last Is Thomas still an Elite safety?

Yea im with you, There are maybe three that i think are upgrades outside of James worth looking at..The Wr, And Dt need i think will almost push FS out of frame..I dont think Vea drops to us either..I did see one senario that gets us the Gd, Wr, Dt, lbr that was sexy with a good safety but i cant remember who was..Tavarious is moving up..he slotted as high as three now!

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (DB36)
HT: 6'0" WT: 207LBS.

POSITION: CB

SCHOOL: Indiana (PA)

ARM LENGTH: 32 1/2"

HANDS: 9 1/8"

OVERVIEW
Owusu-Ansah is an outstanding player at the division II level that will need to make the transition to the talent in the NFL. He is an athletic defender that can play as a rolled up corner in cover two or possible a safety in the box. Owusu-Ansah has excellent instincts and ball skills to maintain leverage as a run defender as well as making plays in the passing game. He is as solid rap tackler and can contribute on coverage units (special teams) as well as being an excellent return specialist at this level. Owusu-Ansah is a prospect that may take a year or two to make the jump to the next level but has the raw athleticism, attitude and measurables to develop into a solid NFL player.

COMBINE RESULTS
  • 40 YARD DASH: 4.47 SEC
  • 60 YARD SHUTTLE: 11.23 SEC

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Owusu-Ansah has tremendous size for a corner and long arms which allow him to play even taller than his listed height. Has impressive ball skills, enhanced by his height/long arms, and can high point the football to come down with a tough interception. A strong defensive back who helps out in run support and wraps up well. Very athletic prospect with upside, Production player who received multiple accolades at the Division II level. Can contribute as a return specialist.

Sneaky you mixed in a corner on me..lol.Good skillset..

I Know..We on the 10 year def rebuild bro..Takes time..lol..Gd stephen and JJ trying to shortcut pass rush and lbr and bad picks in the second....

Hawk---Ok its time to be honest now...cowboys have a real weakness in being overly optimistic about their players becoming more than what they end up being....and then cowboys keep status quo and dont improve in areas....yes heath is good in spurts....but if he plays too much he gets exposed...this is heaths 6th year...so what he is is what he is....i hope we make strong move to get ET....we need a playmaking FS not these patch work players
I dont have any issue with upgrading safety. ZERO...i think we have fallen prey to waiting too long and not wanting to pay church to stay..Plus he was not the skilled safety we needed overall..Last Jones i still think can be a stud, but we tried to divide him too much..Byron is not a SS..Although his skill in covering tight ends, bigger rec is!

Ploy to get SEA to accept lower trade offer? Nah... that would be too smart to consider.

Well Once again i dont think Seattle going to take less than a two anyway. They should have took Dez on the first one..Lol.

If Seattle wouldn't bend on safety demands before the team said anything, why would they after? The fact Dallas walked away (apparently) would have been all they needed to know.

I assume he's talking about the starting SS job. Either way good to see they are finally ready to give Frazier a chance to start. This has Kris Richard written all over it. If he can improve his coverage skills, I think we could have a solid player here.

Everyone familiar with a "Dear John" letter?

These quotes strike me as a "Dear John Schneider" letter.

Dear John,

We're not interested in your current asking price for Earl Thomas, and we're willing to go with the players we have before paying an exorbitant draft cost and huge contract on top of it. If you seriously want to pay Earl Thomas $8.5 million for your rebuilding year, have at it!

Warmest regards,
Stephen Jones

WOW a fantasy stat man..Bro you are not even right with ball..Safety is not going to fix everything on our defense..If you cant analyze that with your eyes then i cant help you.
Fantasy stat? Well I tried to help you out. Keep on embarrassing yourself.

And "Bro", your help has not nor will ever be elicited from you.

I could see them budging once they realize this might be their last chance to get something for basically a one year rental. I don't see anything happening before the draft, but depending on how the draft goes, I still think they will try to move him and accept lower draft compensation. There is no way they get a 2nd for him imo.

Nobody is embarrasing anybody.. You are uninformed..If the Cowboys were closer to competing for a sb, and didnt have the player need they do, then maybe..We need an upgrade in safety, but not at the expense of other positions of higher need. ..You are probably one of those fans that think we on our way back to Sb city and the slower, injury exhibiting safety. Is the last thing we need to go, and win wonderful prizes.

It isnt..Thats being a realist..

Bahawhawhaw!

We are a defense away from the playoffs. Provided Dak continues to progress.

Your evaluation of this team is uninformed.

HEATH Does not really have SS characteristics..At least not the semi lbr skills to be a good one..His issue is attacking the point, staying clear of traffic, and taking bad angles in the run game..But he operates well in space!

Oh yeah, Heath is much more of a single high FS. The farther from the line of scrimmage, the better.

But he was stuck at SS with Byron starting FS for a while. So they will play him there too, but that's really if Frazier just isn't up to it. This year, I hope it's Heath single high, Frazier in the box for the base, Heath and Woods on passing downs.

lol - you can't come up with a reasonable argument based on what I've actually said, so you just attribute a viewpoint to me I haven't indicated in order to fabricate one. That's a common tactic in threads like these from posters who are incapable of reasonable and logical discussion. They can only formulate an argument based on extremes, rather than what's reasonable, That's what this is all about. To you the way to justify saying Heath should be replaced is to go the extreme of calling him a "horror story", and your only way to justify an argument with someone who doesn't agree that he was a "horror story" is to claim that person "loves" him. Reason and logic is rarely on the extreme fringes. Extremes like that are based on emotional reaction, not rational thought.

I think he is terrible buddy, its an opinion. And your sticking up for a guy you are prostrating as "average" or NOT quality starter material. Its like you are just arguing to argue. so what is your contention that he isnt "horrible". For me, when a backup type player is your starting safety and your last line of defense that is a horror show. Your sticking up for Jeff Heath? Thank about that for a minute. If he was on the Eagles no doubt you would be laughing in the face of anyone sticking up for him. As I am.

This may be true. I don't think it would be in any way related to the Cowboys making public comments about their safeties, but if Seattle sees their window of opportunity passing they could loosen up.
