According to ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys "clearly aren’t excited" about third-string QB Stephen McGee's development.

Reporter Tim MacMahon believes McGee will be forced to compete with waivers pickup Rudy Carpenter for a roster spot. McGee has completed just 46 of his 82 career passes, throwing for 420 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions across parts of three games. He wasn't particularly impressive last preseason.

Watched him at A&M.

Never understood what they saw in him or why they drafted him.

Still don't.

We may have to pick up a 3rd stringer when other cuts are made, I have a hard time placing much faith in a QB named Rudy for some reason

I don't think we need a third stringer. Just get a guy for the PS and go with Romo and Orton only on the 53.

That may well turn out to be the case

why not offer the Browns a late Rounder for Colt McCoy? He's still young and could learn a lot behind Romo and Orton.

Why, so every UT fans can do what they always do and think he's the greatest player ever and should start? :laugh2:

No, because he's a better option for #3 than McGee.

More likely we try to get Rudy on the PS -- it would be a really strange situation to have to play your #3 in a game -- we'd lose the game likely anyway, so just keep a guy on the PS and bring him up if you need to the following week

I seem to remember some guy back in the 90s that was our third stringer and had to come in and start when Aikman and Peete went out. He won some games for us.

Who was that guy? I think I remember his number... 17.....

:D

This.^

McGee is the perfect example of the intangibles that make up an NFL QB. He just cannot process the reads fast enough. He isn't stupid, he can make throws but he doesn't have that synaptic function -- whatever it is.

There's a reason only about 12 guys on this planet play the position at a high level.

And he was a student of the game, a guy who our QB relied on heavily. He earned his keep.

Oh yeah, he could actually throw the ball downfield too.

In '85 starter Danny White and 2nd stringer Gary Hogeboom were injured. 3rd stringer Steve Pelluer came into the game and beat the Giants. I think we do need a 3rd string QB on the roster.

Sometimes the punter used to double up as the 3rd string QB, but they don't seem to do that anymore.

Another extremely dumb draft pick to me... He didn't show much at Texas A&M.

Why? So we can watch McGee throw pass after pass to his running backs?

I will say that McGee has accomplished something very rare. He averages 5.1 yards per attempt. That it atrocious.

Because he is to small, has a noodle arm, and cant take the pounding.

Me neither and to think we got him in early in the 4th round.
