He should get a lot reps in the games. I'm rooting for him because he seems like a really classy guy, but still has a lot to prove. I'm hoping he can take the next step to become Romo's backup for years to come.

This should be a make it or break it year for him this pre-season. In the games he has played he has been real careful with the ball, which is a good quality to have but he just needs to let loose every now and then to make some plays.

I think McGee could be a solid back-up or potentially reliable starter in the league someday. He just needs time to make his reads.

I definitely want him playing the majority of the second string O in preseason rather than Kitna.

this is definitely the key year for McGee...if he isn't able to show in this preseason that he can become that viable 2nd option in the future than we are going to have to look again next year for Romo's backup. likely that would be in the draft

I like McGee. I think he'll be fine and cement himself as the no. 2 QB as soon as the end of this year.

I have a feeling he'll surpass Kitna soon. Just a gut feeling.

Looking back in history and I think McGee is every bit as good as Gary Kubiak and Jason Garrett. McGee has been given absolutely no shot so far. The little he did play he did well.

Had he had a turnover yet? In any of his games, pre-season or regular season?

I agree with you,he will be the backup next year, hope he gets some playing time with the first team offense in the pre-season games.

McGee has already shown stuff. The last two years he was always dumping passes off, not taking the shots when they were there. This year he has been going for the long pass a bunch.

When he had time that is....something all our QBs are dealing with against this new defense. :)

Preseason should tell the tale. I have my fingers crossed for him. We really shouldn't be surprised that developmental guys take time to develop.

I like McGee. I think he has something. I would like to see him play some with the first team in the pre-season.

I dont see this as a make or break year for him from what red has been saying. With Kitna in his year possibly that will allow McGee more reps, which he was discussing in an interview a few days ago (about his reps). So far the coaches seem to like his progress. Lets hope he turns out to be a good player so we can have a qb behind romo and possibly a future starter. Also, could use him for trade bait in the future.

The guy made two clutch deep throws at the end of each game he played in last year. It think has has "it".

He just needs some polish time. He'll get it.

I think the pick up of Brandstater could mean that Kitna potentially may not be here for long. I think they're looking at McGee as a cheaper #2 option with Brandstater at 3.

McGee seems to be showing solid improvement each year. He seems much more comfortable in the pocket and more willing to throw the ball down field rather than settle for the checkdown. Having been at each of the last three camps, I can say that the gap between Kitna and McGee shrinks with each passing year.

I sure hope they give Kitna this one last year. We know what he can do for a game or three, and while McGee's progress is encouraging, he's not there yet.

You don't help your team cutting a reliable backup QB who isn't that expensive. Now if Brandstater turns out to be something, that's different, but it looks like he's a camp arm, possible practice squad guy (assuming he qualifies).

He's the backup next year but I don't think he goes any further than that.

Now in his 3rd year in Garrett's offense, I think McGee will be more confident in the pocket and that will show in preseason.

If the young QB's look good in camp, then I hope they keep them both...

Someone made the comment that Kitna looked a lot like Johnson did his last year here in camp -- weak arm, less mobile... Can anyone speak to how Kitna looks in camp? Should we keep 2 young QB's and let the old guy go?

I thought Kitna earned his spot as the backup when he played last year. I doubt he's declined that much since.

I think Kitna is going to get cut also. He's been horrid in camp and supposedly has had a serious problem fumbling snaps.

He has been more decisive and accurate this preseason. He has always had good wheels and a good arm.
