what about this guy. He is strong as a bull and can rush the passer from the d-line position. He had 45 tackles and 6 sacks this year. He is a little short at 6'1 and 311lbs. But he can play NT with Brent and move ratliff to DE. And on the 4 man line we can have ware, paea, ratliff and spencer all rushing. Paea can bull rush the lineman, collapse the pocket and even get the sack his self. With finally having a DT collapse the pocket we can stop the QB from stepping up in the pocket and this in turn allows ware and spencer to get easier sacks.

if we are looking to uprade the d-line and Paea, Dareus, Cameron jordan, J.J watt. who would you take and why. We need someone else on our 3-4 defensive line that can beat someone one on one. Jordan has looked impressive out of the group at getting to the QB and plays in a 3-4 defense already. He could start day 1. He has a lot of pass rushing moves my only concern is can he play the run good also. I have not seen any of his games so can someone chime in.

IF the 'Boys get a D-Coordinator that runs Wade's version of the 3-4, he would be PERFECT at NT. Thicker than Rat, and probably just as strong already. Now, if the end up back in the Parcell's 3-4, then no................unless he gains about 10 pounds.

Not a huge fan of Paea in a 3-4 scheme. Paea is pretty raw and not that strong at the point.

I'd love to have him as a DT in a 4-3, but I just don't see where he would fit in our style 3-4.

if you seen him he looks like he can easily put on 10lbs on. He definitly would be one of the strongest on our d-line (top2 if Igor stays). And he plays low which is always good for a d-lineman.

man can't wait til the combine get here, even though numbers doesn't mean a whole lot but they do help people compare prospects by their speed, strength, quickness, explosion, size and etc.

The Cowboys have scouted Paea three times that I am aware of. He is a perfect fit for Wades 34 scheme, that is a true statement.

If you go back and look at the Cowboys draft board from last year, there are several players on there that you would think would have been 4-3 DT's (e.g. Brian Price out of UCLA). So I could definitely see the Cowboys being interested in Paea if they keep Wade's scheme.

We don't know what our scheme is yet Count.

It wouldn't really matter, would it? If we're staying with the current scheme then Ratliff stays at NT, if we're changing then I'd assume we need a bigger NT, no?

Personally, I've had it with the whole small NT stuff, I love Ratliff but there's a reason almost every other 3-4 team has a massive NT.

Yeah, I think it does matter. Honestly, it depends on what the team feels like, where Rat is concerned. His production was way down this year. Now, you can say that about a lot of guys and it would be true but I think the team needs to have a look at Rat and try and determine what's left. At the least, we need to find another player that we can rotate in with Rat. It may be that we alternate these players and slide one out to play DE at times. We certainly need the help at that position. Rat is a great player but he's playing a position that has a definite shelf life associated. The fact that the Cowboys scouted this guy multiple times and the fact that he's a very similar player to Rat kinda suggest to me that the team may think it's time to bring in a younger player to fill that role.

I'm with you. I like the big massive guys who are physically dominating and cat quick but hey, those guys are really hard to find. It all comes down to what the new DC decides to do. Heck, we may be a 43 team next year. Who the heck knows?

A number of people here thinks moving Ratliff to DE would be beneficial to the team. When I stated that last summer, it was suggested that wasn't going to happen, Ever! To me its simple physics: The bigger the object needing to be moved, the more effort needed to move that object. Ratliff's quickness over the course of a game is neutralized by the constant push of one or more parties in the scheme of play. I'm convinced that he could be as effective as Nick Fairley, if moved outside. I believe a shakeup is about to happen with players, and that's a good thing. It's time.

I'd take JJ Watt. He would be the best pass rusher on that list IMO.

That's the way things work around here. You just learn to laugh it off.

A year ago someone might have pulled out a drawer full of sarcastic smilies if you suggested that Columbo needed to be replaced, much less Davis. Now everyone starts off their mock drafts by saying they want both of them cut.

Then there are those that throw a fit that we cut Jerheme Urban and kept Miles Austin. ;)

Very few of us are too shy to share our opinions about players, some of us just don't feel the need to point out the one thing we were right about and thump our chests.

I too have thought about moving Ratliff to DE, however after further reflection have decided no matter where you move him on the 3-4 defensive line, he will see double-teams unless you put another player on the line that demands a double-team as well. As fast as Ratliff is off the snap, he is really facing 1 1/2 men because the center hasn't even finished exchanging with the QB when Ratliff is hitting his pads. Move Ratliff to DE, they'll double him and run at that huge hole between Ratliff and Ware I like to call 'Igor and warm body at NT'.

You just can't plant any fat body at NT and call it good, they'd have to demand that double-team to validate moving Ratliff to DE.

Yes, putting a crappy player on the defensive line will not improve the defensive line. ;)

Unfortunately, that's what many tend to think can happen. I had been calling for Ratliff to move from NT to DE since 06 but now that he has shown how much of a force he is inside, I cannot justify moving him outside without a suitable replacement. I think it's actually easier and safer to leave Ratliff at NT and draft a DE than it is to draft a NT and move Ratliff to DE.

Stop thinking outside the box, man. It is so much easier to say, ad nauseum, "move Rat to DE" and find a fat guy in the draft to replace him.
