Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan that DC Christian Parker “did a great job really walking through how (Joey Porter Jr.) would change us, how we could play bully ball in the boundary and that would only help (DaRon Bland) because we could leave him on the outside and use his ball skills and play-making ability.”

Jones said they did not have any contract talks with Porter’s agents about an extension. “They understood the deal in Dallas would be to come in here and play under his contract.”

Jones explaining some of the trade details (Porter in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick): “We also had to have the trade make sense if Joey left after this year. That’s why the (second-round pick in 2028) matches up with if he did leave, the compensatory pick we’d probably get a (third or a fourth) for him and get that back in 2028 when that (second-round pick) is in play.

“It made a lot of sense. It protected us. But the bigger thing is what Joey can do for our team. That’s the biggest thing. We hadn’t totally checked that box in our mind when the season started. We had Bland, but we really thought we needed another corner.

“And it’s always the chicken-and-the-egg in terms of getting pressure (up front) and getting sacks versus covering them (on the back end). If you can cover them another half second then a lot of times the pass rusher gets home. If you don’t, then they don’t get home.

“We understand that a lot of people feel like we need to get more pressure on the defensive side, but the pressure starts to come when you cover them well.”

It's hard to follow when you're tired and yawning constantly. So if he's a 1-year rental, we get a 3rd or a 4th comp pick plus get back the 2nd we gave up for him? I'm sure I'm reading into that wrong because that's a great deal if I am.

the 2nd round pick is gone regardless....They're saying at least they'd get the comp pick to help offset giving up the 2nd rounder. Basically would be like them trading back somewhere between 40-80 spots in the draft for a year rental of JPJ.

It’s cute how the Joneses think they are “football men” just by regurgitating what the coaches are forced to teach them in their weekly Football 101 sessions.
Nothing will change when Jerry goes

The 3rd or 4th comp pick remark is interesting.

Porter wants around $30 million apy and that is definite 3rd round territory.

The highest projected 4th round comp pick player by otc this year is Boye Mafe who got $20 million apy.

John Franklin-Myers is the next guy and his number is slightly higher than Mafe at $21 million apy.

Okay. Just making sure. But hey, if he does leave and we get back a 3rd round comp pick, that's a great deal if he makes a big difference this season.

Yup. Why can't bland play bully ball? You can't have a bully secondary with one bully player Stephen. Smh Caleb hasn't even shown to be a "bully" yet. Stephen just running his mouth

When Stephen or Jerry try to “talk football”, I always imagine McClay handing them index cards with a few talking points
Nice. I always envision Jerry reading Forbes Magazine with "Football for Dummies" nestled in it

So this means they're leaving bland on the outside?

Some moron in here compared us to the Rams, and how they have traded away several high draft picks, and it brought them a ring....can't recall who said that though........
