To be honest, it’s smart either way. If it’s not a smokescreen, you put pressure on Pickens and his agent to sign a team friendly deal. If they refuse, cool, you get to see how he performs (and how he behaves) for one more year before signing him long term. It may cost a little more, but the percentage of the cap will likely be the same with the cap increase in 2027. If it’s just a smokescreen, you keep others guessing on if you’re gonna draft a receiver that falls (to replace Pickens), or if you’re going defense.

could Stephen be selling this hard to make teams for sure think we are going WR at #12? you have to admit that everyone in all of football nation knows we are going defense 100% at #12 and #20. That is despite Cowboys brass saying maybe WR blah blah blah, that isn't fooling anyone.

Maybe get teams drafting before us to think WR first or have teams wanting a WR to jump us so that way Downs/Styles has a better chance at falling...... It is a little drastic, but maybe we "hush hush' let Pickens know ahead of time whats up.

The tone of Stephen Jones' statement seems emotional rather than professional. Makes you wonder if he and Pickens' agent recently had words. It appears he was talking directly to Pickens' agent IMO.

Don't be surprised to see him backtrack a bit the next time it comes up.

So if GP doesnt like this franchise tag, if he is willing to miss game checks...as long as he reports and signs by week 10, it'll count as a year toward free agency, correct?
