Stephen: We will not have contract talks with Pickens

Why say this. Any leverage you think you had saying no teams will trade for him is now gone. If I’m Pickens I’m not playing on the tag and will sit
Thats a ton of money to give up. But I get him wanting a long term contract. This will be the most entertaining thing that will happen over the next 5-6 months lol

Cowboys come up with a brilliant ruse to fool the entire NFL. Trick teams into trading in front of them to draft WR which causes top defenders to fall to them. Immediately sign Pickens after the draft to a long-term deal. With the help of Pickens and those defenders immediately win the Super Bo...damn, who the heck called and woke me up. I can't even dream about a Super Bowl it's been so long.

I mean anyone who is supporting this FO anymore needs to get real. Why even talk about Pickens in public. Show your hand to everyone in the league. Just shut up. If the plan is nit to sign him and trade him how in gods name is it a smart idea to tell the world. Idiots
Jerry does not know how to shut up.

You can tell he has never buried a body because if he did he would have told us about it five minutes afterwards.

Yes, I think if we have 3 #1 WR's maybe we could overcome our horrendous Defense by scoring 40 points a game.
And yet we have that horrendous defense because we constantly put a majority of out money and assets on offense.

So let's just triple and quadruple down on that since it's clearly working so well for us.

... and good luck with that. Teams will not be lining up to give up a first, early or late, and then have to deal with that POS agent.
He’s the most successful agent in the league. Our idiot owner is the only one with a problem. He has shown nothing but public contempt for the entire agent profession.

The other 31 GMs work with agents just fine

This is a Jerry problem, not a Mulugheta problem.

Technically you’re right Spott. They never officially tagged him. But they told him he would either be given the 5th year extension option or be tagged and that’s when the trade happened.

At least that’s my understanding.
I think you are right. I believe they did pick up his 5th year option. My memory was he got mad about something during the season but I couldn’t remember what so I looked it up. Here is his version of what happened.

This just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Jerry has done some dumb stuff in the past, but why announce this so early in the offseason? Training camp is still 4 months away. Now Pickens has no incentive to sign it anytime before September, and has the option to wait until week 9 if he’s feeling petty, which he has the right to with a statement so belittling like this

Feign negotiations, say “whelp, too bad we couldn’t come to an agreement”, show him hospitality and let him down easy, then pull this stuff next offseason when you kick him to the curb. It almost seems intentionally insulting to proclaim this to the media today. I don’t remember a single time a team tagged a player and then turned around and said they refused to entertain a long term contract before negotiations even really got heavy. So Dallas tagged him because they don’t want him around after 2026 and just want to take the lump sum franchise tag cap hit right now? The window ends in December or they don’t like him as a fit anymore?
You think he will give up 9 paychecks at a million and a half a game? Not a chance.

FO showing more and more they are idiots. And why they can’t build a winning roster.
I'm guessing the contract number he was seeking was a crazy number and Cowboys are thinking why pay this dude 35+ a year when we can rent him for 27 million this season. Even a 2nd tag should come in lower than the yearly average. Not sure if they trust him enough to give him a big contract and may not be alone if other teams haven't called either. I just don't like how they make it a public negiotation.

I got this off reddit
He can't be traded until he signs the franchise tag. So he can literally talk to teams who have the capital to pay him what he feels he's worth. And once that deal is set, then he would notify Dallas that the team will trade for him. They have to just meet the trade value they placed on Pickens. And he then signs the franchise tag to be traded.

I think the Rams have the best strategy. Just give the player what he wants. They trade for a guy like Jalen Ramsey, he gets a monster contract, then the whole locker room is happy and they play great. 2 years later they trade away Ramsey and accept the cap hit because it was worth it. They did the same thing to Todd Gurley and Marcus Peters and Brandin Cooks and Jared Goff and watch them do it to Trent McDuffie.

I don’t see how toying with players like this is good for the Dallas Cowboys. Do we want a disgruntled Pickens to demand a trade and then be forced to play on a lame duck deal while the trade demand is still pending? Do that benefit the 2026 Cowboys?
Why are you saying we when you are an Eagles fan? I know you spend a lot of time here but you are not part of "we" as in Cowboys fans.

Can you imagine just coasting through life, everything being handed to you, not dealing with ANY kind of adversity, then being handed a job you know you won't get fired from (no matter how bad you suck) making millions?
One can dream. I do recall once his daddy threatened to make him work at a fast food place because he threw a party at his dad's house... I think he made him interview and everything - such a tough lesson to learn lol

Why say this. Any leverage you think you had saying no teams will trade for him is now gone. If I’m Pickens I’m not playing on the tag and will sit
I am sure sitting out a year will only increase his future contract value.

I really am not liking the Jordan Tyson talk. What happened to no players that are injury risks? This guy is as big a risk as there is in the draft.
Maybe we should tell the rest of the NFL what our draft plan is including our draft board.
