Stephen when asked what the media gets wrong about the way Dallas manages the salary cap

I think you know Jerry (Jones) well enough. He’s in this and more motivated than anybody I can think of to win a Super Bowl right now. And he’s not going to be pulling the reins in, trying to hold back on trying to put a Super Bowl team on the field. He doesn’t have forever to win a championship. He’d trade a lot of things, including a whole lot of money, if you could do it, to win a Super Bowl.
All-In!!!!!!!!!

I feel so lucky that we have these masterminds at the controls.

The league has to catch on at some point right? It’s almost unfair that we get to reap these fortunes.

Next question should be how are the Eagles doing what they are doing?

Not going to be popular but I don't have a huge issue with explicitly how they manage the cap. IMO, the issue is that they keep overpaying their own guys. Once you have too much salary, its like trying to fit 20 pounds of gravel in a 10 pound bag. It just doesn't work. That leaves them just a little short of talent.

The Cowboys created a window to win from 2021 to 2023 with their salary cap management. They just didn't have the right players and coaches to do it. Now that window is closed for two years. This is somewhat typical of NFL teams. That "down year" happened to Philly last year and its coming up for SF.

Just as an example, imagine if Jerry didn't give Jaylon and Zeke those big contracts and then went and spent the money on more productive players during that 2021 to 23 window. Maybe a good DT and a RB who wasn't losing his speed. Would that have been enough to put them over the top?

If only they had the people who manage the Dodgers in charge. Friedman kills it with everything hes done.

Year 30 baby!

Yep, paying the wrong players is a big part of the problem.

As far as the comments in the OP, they haven’t signed a major FA in 14 years, yet every other team somehow manages to.

Either way, whatever they ARE doing…doesn’t work.

They've had windows but didn't finish it by adding a few key free agents. The weak links snap against playoff teams.

Enjoy this rant.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan when asked what the media gets wrong about the way Dallas manages the salary cap: “At the end of the day, I think the biggest thing people don’t understand is the ability to push things forward and how much a team is doing that already, versus, ‘Hey, they could have done this, they could have done that differently.’ I think it’s just wrong. We certainly understand pushing money forward. We do it all the time. We rework our top contracts on our roster. But there’s only so many top contracts you can rework."

"Rookie contracts are minimal. And then we have a lot of players on our team that are veteran salary benefit type players. At the end of the day, there are only 6-to-8 contracts that you can rework. You can probably get them all in quick order in terms of where you go to create that space. We reworked (Dak Prescott’s contract) every step of the way of his $40 million contract and we’ll be reworking it again throughout on his $60 million contract, in terms of pushing the pay day out. A little bit of that’s our problem right now, is we’re not only paying for his current $60 million, we’re still paying for part of the $40 million contract that we pushed out."

"I think sometimes people just don’t quite get their hands around that, but that’s understandable. “... We pretty much maximize all of (our salary cap) space. But then as you create that space and you push it out, then there comes a time when you have a day of reckoning when you eventually have to have a roster where … Not unlike what Denver is doing. But hats off to them. They’re doing it with a rookie quarterback. But they’re having to eat the Russell Wilson contract right now. But they’ve done one hell of a job doing it.”

Ken's has great salad dressing for this word salad!; I'm a French kind of guy lol

We can all see the numbers.

Why doesn't anyone ever ask about them going out on the yacht at the start of free agency? Or not even calling people? Why are they waiting on them? DO SOMETHING.

Man please Jones'....SShhhhhh no one cares. Be quiet just for a few months.
