I don't think there is a fan here that would care about a 1-16 team if that is what it took to put a Championship contender on the field. He speaks of moviing money forward....well we can move tons. I posted this before, we have about 20m in cap space right now, so without touching Dak's deal, we can:

Cut Donovan Wilson...save 5.35m
Cut Terence Steele....save 4.625m
Cut Malik Hooker.....save 3.75m

That brings us up to 33m in cap space.

Restructure:
Diggs saves 5.8735m
Lamb saves 20,544m

Extension for Parsons can save 16,123m

That is $76m in space

We need to resign O Diggy, Lewis, Dowdle, Gholston and maybe Mukuamu, as well as all the ERFAs and RFAs. O'Diggy is gonna get paid, and Lewis deserves a decent check. A couple of the vets should be considered for cheap deals. But there is easily room for a couple legit free agents, and then to pay the rookie class. We lose Martin and Tank, but Martin has declined so much and Tank is always hurt so it isn't like we are missing much. With the returning high paid players, from Dak to CeeDee and Parsons there is a good base. Ferguson, Tyler Smith, Bland and a few others are better than average. Sam Williams should be ready to go, and we may get Diggs and Overshown back midseason.

There is no reason this team can't compete with a couple of starting caliber rookies and a couple more contributors from the draft as well as a stud free agent or two.

The only question is who will be coaching them. McCarthy had his run, it is time for one of the fresh faces to be brought in....Johnson, Coen, Kingsbury, Moore, etc.

I the the public comment you made hurts him more than anything, we now know the truth

They like to pretend the cap is too complicated for us to understand and it's really way too technical for anyone to have a clue. We are fortunate to have such mastery at work.

They do the same thing with contract negotiations, as if we all couldn't have called both CD and Daks contracts from day one.

Buckle in!

Largely just more BS from him.

You can't sit there, you big stupid dope, and say Jerry would do anything to win a SB and then rationalize how you manage the cap and how you sit out FA every year.

I guess you expect fans to be stupid. I think most are now starting to realize that you and your dad are lying buttheads.

Not going to be popular but I don't have a huge issue with explicitly how they manage the cap. IMO, the issue is that they keep overpaying their own guys. Once you have too much salary, its like trying to fit 20 pounds of gravel in a 10 pound bag. It just doesn't work. That leaves them just a little short of talent.

The Cowboys created a window to win from 2021 to 2023 with their salary cap management. They just didn't have the right players and coaches to do it. Now that window is closed for two years. This is somewhat typical of NFL teams. That "down year" happened to Philly last year and its coming up for SF.

Just as an example, imagine if Jerry didn't give Jaylon and Zeke those big contracts and then went and spent the money on more productive players during that 2021 to 23 window. Maybe a good DT and a RB who wasn't losing his speed. Would that have been enough to put them over the top?
So you're saying if they'd spent the money on better players, it would help?

Enjoy this rant.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan when asked what the media gets wrong about the way Dallas manages the salary cap: “At the end of the day, I think the biggest thing people don’t understand is the ability to push things forward and how much a team is doing that already, versus, ‘Hey, they could have done this, they could have done that differently.’ I think it’s just wrong. We certainly understand pushing money forward. We do it all the time. We rework our top contracts on our roster. But there’s only so many top contracts you can rework."

"Rookie contracts are minimal. And then we have a lot of players on our team that are veteran salary benefit type players. At the end of the day, there are only 6-to-8 contracts that you can rework. You can probably get them all in quick order in terms of where you go to create that space. We reworked (Dak Prescott’s contract) every step of the way of his $40 million contract and we’ll be reworking it again throughout on his $60 million contract, in terms of pushing the pay day out. A little bit of that’s our problem right now, is we’re not only paying for his current $60 million, we’re still paying for part of the $40 million contract that we pushed out."

"I think sometimes people just don’t quite get their hands around that, but that’s understandable. I think you know Jerry (Jones) well enough. He’s in this and more motivated than anybody I can think of to win a Super Bowl right now. And he’s not going to be pulling the reins in, trying to hold back on trying to put a Super Bowl team on the field. He doesn’t have forever to win a championship. He’d trade a lot of things, including a whole lot of money, if you could do it, to win a Super Bowl.

“... We pretty much maximize all of (our salary cap) space. But then as you create that space and you push it out, then there comes a time when you have a day of reckoning when you eventually have to have a roster where … Not unlike what Denver is doing. But hats off to them. They’re doing it with a rookie quarterback. But they’re having to eat the Russell Wilson contract right now. But they’ve done one hell of a job doing it.”
I see. So other teams know how to work the system? Well then, I guess it's not your fault after all. They're just better than you, and you've accepted it ...Good for you!

Stephen: We'd do anything to win a SB

Would you be more active in FA?

Stephen: Except for that

Would you consider bringing in a real GM?

Stephen: Yeah, we won't do that either

What about bringing in a young coach and giving him more authority on player personnel?

Stephen: Ummmm, that's not an option

Would you consider trying to move Dak and eating a bad season or two to revamp the roster and clean up some of the bad cap contracts?

Stephen: Yeah, we wouldn't even consider that

I think we all understand the concept Stephen.

We're just tired of you playing it safe and not going for it VS what the Rams did, what the 49ers did, what the Eagles are doing.

you say they do not have a huge issue then you proceed to point out several reasons why you should

Believe he has a degree in chemical engineering, and was a linebacker at Arkansas. But here, he is completely out of his League
Jerry and Stephen are not bad people.
But being a quality GM takes a very special skill set.
After 29 years, I think we can conclude they don't have it.
You have to recognize your limitations.

Whether it's son or father Jones speaking...
I'll bet everyone else feels just like how I feel. And that is every time they talk just gives me so much more confidence in this team's future success going forward. Sarcasm extreme, LOL

I mean, The Cowboy Way is here to stay!!
My gosh just when you think it's as low as it can get, one of them has to open their mouth again and make it that much worse.

smh

I'm saying that how they roll money around from year to year isn't really the problem that people seem to think it is. They create windows and have to deal with tight years, just like everyone else. Their issue revolves around spending too much money on a few of their own players.

Next question should be how are the Eagles doing what they are doing?
The Eagles front office does not have lifetime appointments, if they dont produce they are in the unemployment line.

That dynamic does not exist in Dallas where Jerry and his idiot boy can just treat this like weekend fantasy football and there is no consequences for losing.

As long as the stadium is full every Sunday, even if its fans of the other team, all is good in life for Jerry and his idiot offspring.

Jerry is bound and bent to Buck the system and build a team his way instead of using a high draft pick on a quarterback .

He has to pay a second rate player a king's Ransom and keep him as his pet cat. To prove he's a football guy it's all about Jerry's comfort and validation winning is way down the priority list.
He did it with Romo now he's doing it with Dak.

Then to compound matters he goes cheap and won't participate in free agency to give them a puncher's chance of being able to compete later in the tournament.

Jerry and Steven have become absolute Masters at staying just relevant enough to keep the Cowboys making them a fortune.
While keeping the fan base a frustrated and hopeless group of people watching groundhog Day repeat itself year after year. With no light at the end of the tunnel
