SHERMAN, Tex. -- A convicted steroids dealer was sentenced in federal court Thursday, and told the judge that the drugs he sold ended up in the hands of NFL players. David Jacobs, 35, was sentenced to three years probation and fined $25,000.

After the sentencing, he told reporters that he would not name the players whom he says used the steroids he sold.

"I know a lot of them are scared," Jacobs said. "I don't want to ruin anyone's life."

Jacobs pleaded guilty last year in federal court to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute anabolic steroids. He's also said he sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of performance-enhancing drugs to former Dallas Cowboy Matt Lehr in 2006 and 2007. Lehr has also played for Tampa Bay and Atlanta.

Lehr's attorney has said the player hasn't used banned substances since he was suspended for four games during the 2006 season while playing for Atlanta, and has since passed NFL drug tests. The attorney has also said Jacobs' allegations are retaliation because Lehr wouldn't pay Jacobs' legal fees.

Jacobs acknowledged that steroids can be harmful and said he is willing to speak to high school students about the dangers of steroid use.

"It's not worth it," he said.

Lehr is referred to as a 'former Cowboy'.

This story says he got steroids in '06 and '07?

Exactly when did Lehr play in Dallas?

Pretty sure it was before he supposedly purchased steroids.

So why are the Cowboys even mentioned?

I really think that this should be the approach of every steroid dealer, especially considering the backlash that a guy like Roger Clemens is facing. If guys are still playing it would be one thing to say that they are using, but selling out guys who are no longer suiting up doesn't accomplish anything except tarnish reputations IMO.

Sounds like all he's got is Lehr's name and he's bluffing on the rest.

What would grab your attention if your the average sports fan reading an article.

The Atlanta Falcons

OR

The Dallas Cowboys

Kind of a no brainer if you ask me.

I'm really surprised that they did not say Cedric Benson was busted and once attended a Cowboys game. :lmao:

I say he, and every dealer, should come out and give the name of all of their clients.

So what if they have retired. It is like saying the NE video taping should not be investigated any further, the SB they used those tapes for are over. If someone doesn't deserve something (wins or records) they shouldn't get it, period.
