Steve Young nailed it. Until a coach has complete authority over the team nothing will change. Jerry will have to fire MM because he has setup him up for failure.
Then bring another coach and step down from GM spot.

He's right, and he's said the same thing that knowledgeable fans have been saying for 20 years. To fix this, they could bring in Jim Harbaugh, and give him total autonomy. That means Jerry backs off and gives Coach Harbaugh total control of everything football related. That means that Jerry gives no press conferences and never goes into the locker room. Jerry can still watch games from his luxury box, and he still gets to decide what guests can visit in that luxury box, but he keeps his okole OUT of the locker room, and he certainly doesn't allow any guests in there. Does the team do the "earn the star" thing that Steve Young talks about? That's up to Coach Harbaugh, or whichever coach gets hired. A coach like that can instill discipline whether he does the "earn the star" thing or not. The point is, it's up to the coach, not the owner. If Jerry wants to decide which pieces of art get hung up in Jerry's world, fine. That's an owner's choice. Same deal with who handles selling merch at the stadium, who vends the snacks, etc., no problem. Those are also owner things. But who decides what's in the playbook, who are to be assistant coaches, team curfew rules, etc., those are all choices for your coach. For a little bit, it looked like Jerry would finally back off when he hired Parcells, and for a while he did ... mostly. But after not very long, he just couldn't resist meddling. A coach cannot instill discipline while his owner coddles the players.

Excellent interview. Steve Young articulated what has been obvious FAR LONGER than the past 20 years that he talks about--an observation of oversight leadership that some have talked about for just as long.

It does not matter what professional team sport. Baseball. Basketball. Hockey. Championship success in the NFL must be led by the head coach. Player leaders can have significant leadership influence but the entire roster must be a reflection of the head coach or manager.

That guidance cannot be split by any degree from above the head coach or manager. Too many chefs in the kitchen is a bad thing. It is an adage Jerry Jones has and continues to ignore to his own detriment.

Nonsense take. We won with Barry switzer. Jerry was "in charge". If the response is it was Jimmy's players then that supports my argument.
Switzer had the dynasty roster Jimmy built.

To evaluate Jerry’s abilities in football management, please begin from when Jimmys dynasty roster got old, left in free agency, and retired. Then you can view the past almost 30 years as Jerry’s era, his football legacy and the results speak for themself.

Nonsense, the Boys won despite Barry Switzer being the coach. The difference was you had leaders on the team who were brought up under Jimmy's system, and they held other players accountable. Players like Aikman, Smith, Irvin, Allen, Sanders, Woodson, and even Haley to an extent. The current Cowboys have no one that holds other players accountable. Sure, they get together before the game and have their little pep rally, but that's where it ends. These players know if the coach says no, they can run to Jerry and get a yes.

I don't know, most teams don't have the coach writing and handing out paychecks and most players know the GM is the one who does that. However, most gms don't go to the locker room and constantly provide updates day to day on the state of the team. I think he has to understand he can be the GM without doing all that other stuff.

Why wait until they got old? Jimmy wasn't there. Real convenient to create the rules how you want. Fact is the Cowboys had Dawgs as players at that time and they don't have it now.

It most certainly is not nonsense. What GM hires an Offensive Coordinator before hiring the head coach? Should not the head coach select his own staff? Further, Jerry wanted TO; Parcells did not. These are but two minor examples of Jerry neutering his coaches.
