I've always thought that the teams plans for 2016 are to sweat the coaching staff and Romos contracts plus get rid of some dead wood with a view to a complete rebuild from 2017 onwards. Our lack of activity in FA is indicative of this. Quite a few contracts will be up after 2016.

The draft so far supports this i.e.

1. Didn't make a serious effort to move up to get Goff or Wentz - management doesn't trust the current coaches to develop a young QB and the next coach will want to pick his own franchise QB. Not firing Wilson after he had a terrible year also a sign.

2. Smith - wont play 'til 17 - nice gift for the new regime.

3. EE will have more impact in '17 whem DMC is out of contract.

4. Resisting temptation to fill the suspended DE gaps for 2016 - whats the point in a throw away year.

I'm mentally preparing for a 1988 esque season and hoping that what happened from 89 on will happen again.

I think you underestimate the impact Zeke is going to have in what looks to be a weak division. I am not putting the cowboys in the super bowl, but it's not that much of a stretch to expect playoffs...he may not actually be an elite talent alone; nevertheless, I suspect he is going to look like one by season end considering his 10 other teammates. You might say wr2 is another concern but with Beasley and Witten plus Zeke we are talking about the fourth option. The defense I believe will be adequate for the regular season but I'm predicting that will bite them in the butt postseason.

If thats the case you dont take Zeke.

Zeke with healthy Romo and Bryant makes us big favorites in the East

Seriously. OP not being objective at all.

And besides, Jerry absolutely loves Garrett. He WANTS him to succeed more than anything. He'll give Garrett every resource he could possibly need, and every opportunity to get this team to where it needs to be. Right or wrong.
