Still shaking my head and pinching myself over this front office

Stephen knows what he's doing. Seems like he's calling almost all the shots these days.

I agree. He helps balance the scale. When Jerry has a brainstorm about getting a guy (draft or free agent) I think Stephen and the rest of the key guys, bring the scale back to neutral---allowing everyone to think things through and make the smart decision.

So you can look at the restructure of Romo two ways.
1 - Used to sign draft, get McClain and maybe Spencer into the fold. Use the rest during the year to absorb the Hardy numbers week to week.
OR
2 - Used to sign draft, get McClain. Trade for and restructure Peterson. Not worry too much of next years CAP hit via Hardy.

Nice OP and subsequent posts.

Look back to last year at this time and the FO "dislike" was rampant, mostly from posters not around or don't post much anymore, it seems anyway. Maybe it's just because I have them on ignore.
Now the FO getting props in hindsight after the season. and now, and deservedly so.

But even this year, as again, I don't see these posters around as much. the ones saying Dallas sucks because JJ won't spend the $$ on FA's. But most of us held on, as we knew things would get done correctly after all the big money deals settled down, and common sense was used once again by the FO.

Going into this year even before the draft, looks so much better than last year. Feels good not to have huge glaring weakness at multiple positions. Improvement needed, yes, but the Patriots could use some too.

Something is fishy about Stephen Jones and how he wrestled power away from Jerry.

I keep finding myself looking around the room for a knowing face. Somebody that can solve the mystery for me. I want to ask, "Who are these guys?"

So much football common sense has me scratching my head, and all of us recalibrating our Cowboys navigation system for a whole different time zone. Words like "identity", "discipline", "value", "plan", and "execution" now describe perfectly....the Cowboys front office?

Yep, and now Dallas is crafted in such a way that the draft can come to them, rather than forcing the issue like in the past. They can take the best player that falls because there is no crushing need that can't wait another round.

Especially if they re-sign Spencer, they're OK at defensive end. The additions of Brinkley and Gachkar reduce the risks associated with Ro and Lee and round out a pretty reasonable corps. McFadden makes the backfield workable as is, especially if Ryan Williams is what they're acting like he is. Free solidified the best unit on the team.

That's not to say they're ready to roll already, but it gives Dallas an important commodity. Options.

The preferences in order come draft time probably go (1) defensive tackle, (2) corner, (3) running back, (4) safety, and (5) linebacker. But the beauty is, with the free agency moves thus far, they are positioned to take any of those five positions in any order.

Rather than throwing up all over themselves in early free agency - good gosh there was some stupid money handed out - the Cowboys stayed true to a plan and are making shrewd moves now. Notice how almost all of the good teams did the same, while the n'er-do-wells gorged themselves on caviar.

Take the next Zack Martin. Whoever he is and whatever he plays. Need should only be a tie-breaker, not a determinant.

Dallas is managing to play for the now for Romo without compromising the future for the next QB. That's hard to do in today's NFL. Good on Jerry and Stephen, Will, Garrett, and everybody involved.

I would venture to say its Garrett and Stephen as a combination with Jerry finally giving up the reigns to Stephen and not having knee jerk reactions. I think Garrett has a lot of influence with Stephen and Stephen is more of a sound decision maker than Jerry. Stephen for years managed the cap and has seen direct results of knee jerk reaction to the cap and the team. where Jerry is a marketing man at heart, Stephen is more of an operations type of person. Garrett brings patience, vision into the fold....

Agreed. I'm pleasantly surprised that Jerry is getting his kicks more through letting his son succeed than by feeding his own ego. I think he could only do that because it's his own offspring, as opposed to some outsider.

I have found that my kids can make me happier than I can make myself.

True, but before those signings, they would have HAD to draft there. Options would not have been there.

I don't know. I can agree that he Hardy signing opened things up for the best because i'm not quite sure if a pass rusher would've been there and I don't think that player would've contributed this year. But those other signings....there's JAG's but I hope they do become more than that. Every year this team and I assume most teams in this league go into the offseason with a few JAG's that end up being bigger contributors than they expected. I'm hoping we have ATLEAST one of them with one of these signings.

I love what the front office is doing. I also love what is happening in Philadelphia (train wreck) and Washington (RG III fiasco). Going forward the Giants will be our main competition.

While I agree, watch Philly. I expect a draft day trade of Bradford to Cleveland for Mariotta. Chip has more of a plan than it appears, I suspect.

All true, but it is all tied to the trust in, and track record of, Will McClay.

Only a small part of Hardy's incentives (1.8M) can be pushed into 2016.

The offseason cap only includes the top 51 contracts. When the season starts they have to account for players 52/53, the practice squad and any players on IR/PUP.

Ahhhh Come on man....
Even Jerry would know when to give up the day to day. He's still the face of the Cowboys and mostly has final say in football related decisions.
I feel it's now a 3 way partnership between Steven, Jerry and Jason.
Jerry get to be in front of the cameras.

Cleveland is stupid, but not that stupid

Cleveland will want Bradford and some picks (2 #1's might get it done)

I don't care what they draft as long as it is not a TE in round 2.

I find this whole deal pretty simple. We don't bank the entire teams future on a single player outside of our QB...
