For those worried ab DT.. I understand and I have my concerns also, but I think people are over looking players simply bc they aren’t household names. Let’s keep in mind, right or wrong, Marenilli dosent value the traditional ‘refrigerator’ type DT in his scheme. He values big body guys (not necessarily fat guys) that have a quick first step to disrupt what the opposing OL’s scheme, yet are still capable of stopping the run. The whole idea is to limit the amount of time the QB has to make his reads and hopefully cause turnovers.

Let’s also consider we will prob only keep 4-5 DT’s on the roster with a couple DE’s capable of rotating in on passing downs like Taco did last year and Crawford has demonstrated in the past. Collins will be back soon and yes Irving will miss the first four games, but both are above average starters. With the secondary presumably stronger, the LBers & DE’s as deep as it’s been in years.. the DTs only need to be solid.

I personally believe Ealy can play some if need be, his quick first step could be exactly what Marenilli covets. I also believe people aren’t giving Ward enough credit as to what he’s capable of doing. And if you doubt, I get it. But trust the process. Remember what Marenilli was able to get out of Irving’s size/power. I’ve also stated in a past post that Brian Price will surprise people and let’s not forget ab that Datone Jones played well at seasons end last year. For those that like the ‘trash can full of dirt’ type players, well Woods and Ash fit the mold.

I’m not saying any of these guys are pro bowlers, although Irving definitely could be if he’d screw his head on straight. Collins played hurt most of the year last year, and I remember predictions of pro bowl caliber play before last season. The sky isn’t falling and our Boys are in better shape than some think. That’s said.. considering our current roster...predict your top five.

Irving, Collins, Price, Ward, Jones

Ok.. bring on the haters.. remember, it’s just discussion.

I haven't heard much on Ash. Talkin' Cowboys crew has said that Woods has caught their eye.

But I think it's Datone Jones and Brian Price at 1T right now.

It really wasn't necessary to call people names. You had a good post before that last line.

Lol.. that was intended for those that will inevitably blast me for my opinion and tear my post apart(as that eventually happens with every post). If your not that poster, that wasn’t meant for you and I apologize. For the rest that will take thier shots anyway.. I swing first, ask questions later. :D

Other than Irving, the rest (4) of them DTs have been at training camp... and getting dominated by the starting Oline.
That's not true at all. Travis Fredbeard got put on his backside twice by Brian Price the other day and Crawford out maneuvered La'el Collins a few times as well. This is an outstanding O-line we have here so they will dominate any front 7 most of the time but that doesn't mean our DTs won't have major success once they face another teams O-line.

I'm not sure if this means I'm a "hater", but I think speaking for myself and others, it's not "passing downs" that I'm worried about when it comes to the defensive tackles. It's the running downs.

I like what I've recently heard about Price and I hope he can be that guy, but there are few other options that instill faith.

No.. that dosent make you a hater sir.. I have the same concerns and believe that’s prob the basis of most people concern at DT. But I believe that derives from Marenilli’s scheme. His scheme will always lend this concern. Until that changes, there not much going to change in that department. I will remind those that are concerned about that tho.. with basically the same group, Dallas ranked 8th in the league against the run. Meaning, only seven other teams average less yardage against the run last year. That said, the improved depth(and health of Jaylon)of our LBers should mean we could atleast duplicate top ten status.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Or like it.

I would counter that with the fact that the team was routinely gashed by teams with good running games. In particular, the Super Bowl champs ran at will en route to a 37-9 drubbing. When teams wanted to run? They did.

And if this teams pass rush and secondary is as good as we all hope? Where will opposing offense turn? Testing our defense against the run. Again and again and again.

Price has not done badly, and think he can handle the run-down responsibilities at his position. Not sure any of the DTs are as near as good at rushing the passer as Irving or even Collins, though.
