We talked about this last year. And many said it was no big deal...That people talk a certain way, and it doesn't mean anything. Well, just like anything else, it does mean something. It means you have no substance.

Almost every time, or at least every other time, someone asks McCarthy a question, he prefaces it with the phrase, "I think it's just like anything else."

No, Mike.

It's not just like anything else. If you think that, then stop thinking.

I always look for what people mean when they're saying something. What I'm hearing when he says "I think it's just like anything else," I'm hearing him say, I don't really have a good answer for you so I'm going to give you some generic line comparing your specific question to generally "anything else."

At the beginning of the season, McCarthy talked about The Standard. But the standard he's setting with this generic phrase "like anything else" is the equivalent of Jason Garrett responding by clapping.

It's meaningless, and it's a cover up for his shortcomings. Everything is OK, because this loss is just like anything else.

The clapping thing didn’t mean anything, aside from “c’mon, let’s go”, “keep it going”, “let’s move on”, etc., etc. It was just a mannerism, like saying “y’all” all the time, or winking, or giving a thumb’s up. It was simply something Garrett haters clung to that they thought would validate their nonstop misery.

Team's never have divulged what they exactly are doing, only we are going to kick someone's butts. Never...

It is just like anything else since Jerry Dumbo GM Jones fired a back to back Super Bowl Winning coach. Just like anything else over the last 27 years.

When ya got the 3 stooges as GM, HC and QB running your team, the funny team results should not be questioned.

I just can't figure out which one is Moe. The supposed "smart" one.

100% agree with his BS. There's a great book called "On BS" - the censors won't let me spell it out - but it's written like a thesis paper. The author explains the root origins of the word, but then explains how it's different than lying. In short: Lies are outright falsehoods, but BS is often meant to deceive the listener about the speaker's state of mind. You said it best..."no good answers"...and so he relies on BS generic phrases to plow through the conversation. He would have us believe he's confident, that he knows the answers, but it's all...

I'm not sure I see a problem here. Coaches have been delivering various catch phrases for "I'm not going to answer your question" for as long as I can remember. I see no reason to be any more upset about McCarthy's "crutch" phrase as anybody else's. There's way more pertinent things to be concerned about with this team than how McCarthy handles the media .. or vice versa.

It's his way of the "Nothing to see here", like Leslie Nielsen. As everything's on fire behind him. Pitiful excuse. Jason used to say "It's a process.".....got him nowhere either.

Well this thread…well it is like anything else….just to complain about something that is really nothing…like most threads anymore.

:lmao::popcorn:
Sorry to bump this thread from the bottom to the top, but I do want to respond to this. It's not just complaining. It's the people around you. I have no doubt in my mind that he also says these things in front of his team. It tells the players that he thinks they're dumb. Unless you think the players are dumb, and too dense to see through this for lacking substance.

How much confidence can you have in a coach that lays an egg like Mike laid against the 9ers? It'd be one thing if he had some substance and wasn't relying on a cheap phrase to get him by.

I was hesitant to post about this again. But I see McCarthy getting comfortable, because people are letting him get away without asking him any tough questions. Like, in what way is that just like anything else? Etc. etc.. It's truly not just like anything else. And if he truly does think that it's just like anything else, he should be shown the door at seasons end.

I want him to win. Personally, I just don't think he can. Half of it is because he's playing scared, just like anything else.

Also, I'm more of a homer. I like this team. I even like most of the things McCarthy does. But stop letting him get away with this nonsense. You need substance as a coach. You need authenticity. "I think it's just like anything else," is disingenuous. It's not what he's saying. It's what he means.

There's a time and place for these comments. During the draft.. etc. But there's also a time when you stop relying on your cheap phrase and respond with what you mean rather than your linguistic summersault.

Always, always, contribute to win...and McCarthy is not a fool by any credable standard.

I'm not calling him a fool. I'm saying he's acting like others' are foolish enough to think he means what he says when he starts his response with, "I think it's just like anything else."

It's like sales. If you're condescending to your customer, they'll sense it... and buy elsewhere. Different situation, same effect.

Whether it’s a child’s home life in their developmental years, a business’ leadership structure and core objectives, or a coaching staff’s styles, strategies and playbooks, continuity is an important component.

The current scheme has been together with current roster a sum of three weeks!
