STOP THE CUPCAKE NONSENSE!
pleasE pleaSE pleASE PLEASE, don't buy into the media's nonsense (and I'm thankful that Wade Phillips doesn't!). It was not too long ago that when Phillips ran a cautionary camp the media dubbed it Camp Cupcake. And many on this board bought into it.
Now it's down to hard-nosed football, and all we're reading, and often regurgitating, is talk about "are they practicibg too hard" and "oh, they shouldn't play Romo to protect him."
BULLCRAP!
While everyone's so worried about Romo, I'll let Romo worry about himself. In fact, I'm sure he'll like the leadership opportunity to play behind what many call a "makeshift" OL.
And you never know if or when any of the starting OLmen get injured during the season, thus forcing some of these backups into the starting rotation. Do you really want to wait until then for Romo to get a sense of their tendencies in live game action? On the contrary, it could be beneficial for Romo also, to learn right NOW, in the preseason in real game action, what these backups can and can’t do.
And why is everyone so quick to dub the backup OLmen as sure failures? They could benefit with starters experience and they'll get that in this game. It only helps them if Romo plays on that starting unit. And like I said before, it colud help Romo too.
And has anyone imagined a scenario where these backup OLmen may actually play well? I'm hoping they do, because just immagine how much better these backups can get with that kind of success based on the confidence they gain from playing and protecting Romo well.
After all, Dallas finally has an opportunity to make its depth on the OL a little better - something they need to do - and all we hear now are cries for “cupcaking” the QB with no consideration of the benefits that playing these backup OLmen can bring to both the OL and the QB?
Protect Romo?
REDICULOUS!
