I just tried to do it for the second time - only 2 cuts this time (like 4-5 last time). I used one of those antiseptic pencils on them.

Any one do this? I had it done by a barber several times, then decided to learn myself. It's pretty tough, and right now I am still no getting much closer than I would with a mach 3 or something.

I've used 1 a few times my granddaddy had, he even had the razor strap (that he claimed he used liberally on my mom and uncle) that he sharpened it on for me. I found if I had like a 3-6 day growth, it worked great. But I've shaved in the shower for about 20 years now, and there's just no way I can tell the difference between even the cheapest disposables and a straight razor, all things being considered.

I thought about trying it out a few years ago when I experimented with different shaving techniques, but it seemed like too much of a pain in the *** to upkeep the blade. I just bought a nice shave brush and bowl to go with my mach3 instead.

I hate shaving and would grow a ZZ Top beard before using a single blade razor.

I'm with you and I have the luxury of not having to shave for sometimes 3-7 days or more at a stretch. But I have found that if I try and shave on a back-2-back basis, I don't get nearly as close as if I have a good 3 day growth. Plus, it leaves my skin feeling less "abused".

P.S. REAL men ain't a skeered a no "single" blades!

I don't mind shaving, but sometimes I am just too lazy to do it...

I am in my late 20's and my whiskers have gotten much thicker and rougher and it is starting to mess with my skin.

I mixed together a preshave oil consisting of aloe oil, olive oil, and eucalyptus oil and it has worked wonders in soothing my skin and easing some pain. I then have to use a shave cream like Zirh or American Crew to get a nice shave...the gels and cheap creams are worthless on my face.

Grow a beard, solves all your problems...

One thing it does NOT do is save time, though... a good beard needs daily attention to look good... it may take more time to hand-trim my beard on a daily basis (I use my beard trimmer twice a week) than it would to shave...

I grew my beard 30 years ago, and the only time I ever shaved it off was for my Dad's funeral... he wasn't that wild about it (though he never gave me any grief for wearing it), so I figured that would be a nice gesture of respect, and I felt the need to make some kind of gesture... I started growing it back the next day...

What's kind of funny about my Dad's 'tude about beards is when I first grew a mustache, he DID like that, and went out and grew one of his own, that he wore until he passed away...

My barber uses a straight edge and usually does 3-4 shaves on folks each day. I came in one day for a hair cut. I had shaved at home with my Sensor. He remarked that I had an extremely close shave. When I asked if he got that close with the straight edge, he laughed and told me that the straight edge would never get that close without removing skin.
