The three Service Academies haven't sent very many players to the NFL.

Army leads with 26, but only 4 in the Super Bowl era.

Navy is next with 15, only 6 in the Super Bowl era.

Air Force trails with 7, all in the Super Bowl era.

That is 48 players total from the three academies who have been drafted by the NFL. Only 4 of them have played in and won a Super Bowl. 2 of those 4 played for the Cowboys.

Roger Staubach, QB, Navy, Dallas Cowboys, Super Bowl VI & XII
Chad Hennings, DT, Air Force, Dallas Cowboys, Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII, & XXX

Robert Kuberski, DE, Navy, Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl XXXI

Steve Russ, LB, Air Force, Denver Broncos, Super Bowl XXXII

He was finally relieved of duty when he hit 270 pounds. Even then he was squeezing into the cockpit somehow. He is the biggest fighter pilot ever.

Larry Cole started out at the AFA before getting bounced for cheating.

He wasn't drafted, but didn't Kyle Eckel play for the Pats in the 08 Super Bowl?

Yes, he did. I am only talking about drafted servicemen. I did not count Staubach as being from the Super Bowl era because he was drafted in 1964. I was trying to use the same criteria across the board.

The service academies are not usually the places guys go purely for sports. Schools like USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Miami, etc. tend to get a lot more "players", guys who went to college just to get into the pros.

Yep.

The Service teams are at a distinct disadvantage in that they all have to keep their weight within regulations.

It's no wonder that the Navy runs a deception offense such as the Double-Wing T pretty often. The high schools around here run it quite a bit and often make it to state with it as sometimes the refs don't even know where the ball is.

It's interesting to see them run it versus these HS teams.
