In the off-season, I believe that it is imperative that we bring in a different Strength and Conditioning staff. Mike Woicik needs to go. I would like to see a younger staff utilizing the latest technology and familiar with the latest treads in injury prevention. As much as the CBA allows, no longer allow players to utilize their own independent methods.

Decimating injury situations have handicapped us for too many years. This is not an excuse for poor play, but is a reality that needs to be addressed.
 
In a salary cap league health is one of the better metrics that relates to being successful in this league.

Everyone can spout off the GB season winning the Superbowl, but I don't think it is a good speedometer to measure your team by.

Keeping players healthy and on the field is the best chance, IMO, of winning games.

We need to evaluate the situation with the hamstring injuries and then decide on whether Woicik is the right person for the job.

I think this is a valid idea.

Maybe training like lions (strength and power) is not a good method anymore given the restrictions on practices and limitations on physical contact. Maybe they should train like leopards (speed, agility, and power) instead? Woicik maybe have been a great S&C coach years ago but he is doing nothing to keep this team healthy anymore.
 
It needs to be. All of these hamstring injuries should be an indicator that things need to change. Our franchise use to be innovative and ahead of the competition and now we're in the state we're in.

I believe the previous head S&C coach had some sort of health issue. If he's recovered from that, I'd sure look into his availability.
 
If you call being innovative being one of the early adopters of the AC pads.. then I guess. I can't really remember a time when this team was innovative or ahead of the competition in terms of utilizing technology. I'd really like to see us incorporate Philadelphia's program. Anything to stop the hamstring madness.
 
Stopping hamstring problems is all on the players not being lazy. That's it. Hamstring injuries are so freaking preventable with the proper stretching and conditioning that the fact that professional athletes suffer from them so often is just mind boggling.

Something which the S&C staff should oversee and make sure is happening.

They say in the media that Austin is one of the hardest workers on the team. Not categorized as "lazy". Why is he still suffering from hamstring issues.

I can't imagine Lee being lazy. I'm willing to consider this as something else.

Lee and Austin's injuries are quite different.

Maybe I shoudl clarify...I mean lazy in terms of taking care of your muscles. You can be a gym rat but be lazy with stretching and put yourself at greater risk of pulling a muscle.

Yep, or be a hard worker on just your beach muscles. It's not as fun to do glue ham raises and romanian deadlifts as it is curls and triceps extensions.

I posted the above link in its own thread earlier, but it deserves some attention -- especially by Jerry. Take a look at how Stanford has reduced injuries -- and maintained or improved strength -- with some innovative ideas. The Cowboys clearly need help in this area, and if the Stanford guy is not available, some disciple of his needs to be hired.
 
That's a pretty great article, never heard of that guy until now, but it all makes a lot of sense. Its clearly not a coincidence that, as emphasis on gym stats has gone up, so too has injuries.
