TonyRomo#9

this is for people seeing the scrubs throw away games and worrying about our team.. here are the stats for only 1st team on first team moments throughout the preseason so far..

first team offense through 3 preseason games

plays - 90
yards - 524
1st downs - 37
T.O.P. - 48:14
points - 31

our first team defense held their 1st team offense to

plays - 58
yards - 250
1st downs - 15
T.O.P. - 23:54
points - 16

we are basically doubling the production of our opponents.

guys i will take this kind of dominance every single day, and twice on sundays..

starting offense has played slightly more than 1 game(4 quarters and 2 series). 500 yards and 30 points is pretty nice. of course the teams we played are all bad(titans were a fluke) and its pre season...

im disappointed with the points we left on the field....the 2 missed FGs, the FG wiped out cause of a penalty....penalties that have cause us to either settle for FGs, instead of going for it on 4th and short, or those that have taken us out of FG range.

IMO, our starting unit has left a good 13 points on the field....the 2 missed FGs, the FG taken away by the penalty, and and settling for a FG instead of going for the TD when Colombo had the false start.

I dont mind leaving a FG here and there on the field....but I hate leaving TDs on the field.

ok, but when has a team ever gone through the entire season without an injury. your backups have to be able to perform and so far this preseason the backups have shown almost ZERO. if gurode goes down, are you comfortable with proctor or holland, not me. if flo or columbo go down are you comfortable with free and mcq, not me. if RW goes down are you comfortable with austin as your #1? the list of very suspect backups goes on and on and on. we can take an injury to the RB position and possibly not miss a beat. just about any other position, we have huge concerns about the backups. with that said, i just pray they stay healthy so we dont have to worry about the backup's performing.

Every other team in the league has this same exact problem.........just the names are different.

Exaclty. We have no #1 WR, no OL depth, too many runningbacks, question marks at CB. Sorry to ramble on, just go read anything JJT has written.

When our teams plays for four quaters during the season then you bring things like this up.

i agree to an extent but i doubt there are other championship caliber teams who have so many weak backups as the cowboys do. i named one position, RB, that i felt if we had one injury we would be fine at.

Now, what happens if one or more of those starters gets injured, and is out for a substantial period of time? Now you understand the reason why a lot of people are deeply concerned about the lousy play of our backups.

If all 22 starters have to be replaced by backups, yes we should all be worried.

If a handful are replaced by backups, I think we might can manage.

Depends on what positions the handful plays.

Gurode, Crayton, Ratliff, Ware, Newman, Hamlin, Sensabaugh, Brooking, James, Romo pick any 4 of those guys and we are in serious trouble.

The only guy out of that group that causes a serious problem if we lose is Romo.

Ware is the best defensive player in the NFL. But we can lose him and still win 12 games. Not gonna happen without Romo.

This is the summary point of all pre-season talk. Backups are just that, they come in one at a time, and not as a unit. Pre-season is about evaluating your teams talent and ability one player at a time.

Even 1st string stats can be somewhat deceptive, because it always depends on what the opponents are trying to accomplish to. For example, in our Baltimore game, other than the first series or two, we played our 2nds to their 1sts, our 3rds to their 2nds etc. I am not defending our poor production, but saying that each team and unit coach is evaluating different players throughout.

The important question in every pre-season, is did your team suffer any major injuries. For that I think the Cowboys and Skins both had pretty positive pre-seasons.

I'm scratching my head on the bolded words right now..... We will be lucky to win 11 games WITH Ware right now. I predicted a 10-6 or 11-5 season and IF we lose Ware its going down not up.

I am getting into a lot of arguments right now so I' off to bed.

4 significant injuries to that level of players and any team would be in trouble. Teams do their best to build reliable backups, but you can't have ProBowl players backing up every position. On the other hand, if Ware is injured for a significant time, then your scheme will change and you have to trust your coach's ability to recognize what abilities you lose by losing the probowl talent.

Again, games are not played on paper. In 07 we were the paper champs and didnt even win a playoff game. In 08 we were on paper suppose to be the best and didn't make the playoffs. The only thing that matters is wins and losses. If were doubling our production that is wonderful. With that being said, we are still finding ways to keep teams in the ball game.

Ex 1 vs the Titans= The whole world saw we dominated that game but as in Dallas Cowboys fashion over the last couple years we committ stupid penatlies at the absolute worst times. Next thing you know the Titans are right with us with a minute left of the half.

Ex2 vs the 49ers= Again, we outplayed these guys for the entire half and were only up 10-3 I beileve. We threw 3 points off the board with a stupid lineman pentaly. The Romo pick is going to happen.

Again, both of those games had one thing in common, pentalies. Everyone knows we're good and can move the ball. Thats never been a problem. The problem has been shooting ourselves in the foot. When we stop doing that, only then, will we have an awesome chance at a Superbowl. The only problem is I dont think its possible with the guys we have on our line.

Whoa, whoa whoa.

What is going on here? You're an intelligent poster, but claiming that we win 12 games without Ware is just asinine.

You do realize we have no depth at OLB right?
Also, the fact that we'd be relying on Spencer as our main pass rusher, and he is better at stopping the run.

Everything we do on defense is generated around our pass rush.

We lose our best player on defense, and we're going to be hurting. If he's out for extended time, we may be in serious trouble.
