Strictly for discussion...

Not saying this should happen, but how realistic is it for a big blocking TE like Bennett to add 25 or so lbs and transition to OT? And do you all think he could become a successful RT in a year or so of training? Lastly, do you think Bennett would balk at such a move?

I think someone articulately summed it up....he barely wants to be a TE...why would he want to take that on.

Jerry has said that the Cowboys think Bennett could be a very good left tackle (not just average or merely good).

As has been mentioned, the question is whether Bennett would be motivated enough to do it.

I actually spoke to him about this once when he used to do his web-shows last december, he said he would never be up for it since he wouldn't be able to get chicks. But im sure money would motivate him otherwise.

If Bennett had made the move to OT his Sophmore year at A&M, then he might have made a very good NFL OT. But you don't make that change three years into your NFL career.

And Jerrah is parroting very smart men who know what they're talking about.

I've proposed this scenario a long time ago and if I were Marty B, I'd seriously consider it. His future as a TE is in question in this regard: it will take a tragedy for him to become a starter in Dallas, and if he's waiting for the FA market, he's going to have to start all over again somewhere else to prove he deserves a big contract.

Now, if he starts working on becoming an offensive tackle right now, it's possible that within a year or two, he's a starter on this team with his contract having just runned out. Right now in the NFL, tackles are considered a more primum positions than TEs, especially for those with little history, so at the very least they'd be a market for him.

Drive and self motivation is foreign to Bennett, going back to college days and now the pros. Getting better does not seem to be a goal of his, much less to be the best at ANY position. He already has accomplished his goal.:(

Sorry to say it, but it's true.

right now I give anything for J Finely

over

Marty B - just does not have that killer instinct

I think it would be a really tough transition for him, that's not to say it can't be done. Recently (well, recent in the grand-scheme of things)the Bills picked up undrafted FA Jason Peters (TE out of Arkansas) and converted him into one of the best OT's in the game. But if that were easy, everyone would be trying to do it.
