With Dak under center, Dallas is 25-6 vs the NFCE and 30-28 vs the rest of the NFL.

This “jekyll and hyde” reality is at the root of the team’s inability to establish consistency and advance in the playoffs.

Why does this team struggle to win consistently against non division opponents? Lack of preparation and focus? Unfamiliarity with personnel?

Good question , may be familiarity?

It’s a great question. Somehow I think one of the reasons we see this is this front offices’ lack of aggressively trying to upgrade their roster like other teams are constantly doing. While Stephen Jones is lecturing us on the challenges of the salary cap, GMs like Les Snead of t(e rams, Brett Veach of the chiefs and Jason Licht of the Bucs are making big moves to upgrade their roster.

That may seem like an odd connection to why we can’t compete as well outside the NFCE. But I think it’s totally connected. The teams wringing their hands over the cap and being passive aren’t winning playoff games. OurFO is way behind the times.

It's interesting because you would think conference games would be toughest to win (because that's how conference games are!).

Because the NFCE has been a division filled with the weak and poor coaching, management and just terrible teams. That has changed though, so those six victories a year are no longer a given. Those teams have gotten better or at least more competitive striving for more wins.. . Dallas has the delusional duo who are just satisfied with being in the media and clutching onto their golden goose.

Good post Bob… I agree that the “braintrust” has certainly had a negative effect in the team.

I think the FO culture and personality has definitely affected the climate, culture, and quality of the product on the field.

JJ and SJ are smug and arrogant and assume that their strategies and plans will work, without much thought to contingencies.

Great example is when they decided WR by committee was the right way forward, then coughed up the #1 for Coop mid season. Reactive leadership rather than proactive. They consistently overvalue their players, and refuse to consider adding quality players through FA and are somehow shocked when they continue to get the same results after applying the same strategies lol

This kind of leadership leads to the team always seeming to be a few steps behind the rest of the league… which could certainly be reflective in their W/L record vs those teams.

Add in 10+ years of Garrett preaching and focusing on winning the division, and the fact that the rest of the division has largely been weak sisters for the last decade— and the record discrepancy can start to make a bit more sense

So you're telling me if we make the playoffs and face the giants and eagles we could make it to the NFC championship?

Just Kidding, I know all those NFCE wins go out the window in really big games.

Woof woof give him the dog teams and Dakko is a Stud!
Now he's lost that as the NFC East has improved so things will be getting worse before they get better.
Dakko is headed for a mental explosion and professional demise as his career at Dallas will not end well.

He has never proven he can win the big games on the biggest stages. Granted— he has been saddled with a midling defense for most of his career, but since last year, that excuse has evaporated.

Huge season for Dak and the FO. Another one and done in the postseason, and one would have to think they would be gun shy about extending him and would be looking for the soonest escape hatch to get out of his deal, or explore a trade and go into rebuilding mode as likely a playoff failure would mean the end of the McCarthy era as well

I am a Dak Stan but it is all about the playoffs for him. I will go as far as to say he has to win two playoff games and has to be impressive in the 3rd game for the Cowboys to extend him. The league has changed and the formula that led to Rush going 4-1 has to be considered if the team washouts again.

The NFC East has sucked until this season.
That is why the better record against them as opposed to the rest of the NFL.

Bingo. $$$$ to owners, versus return of a competitive/ SB contender ( like past eras) to the fans.

The Jones, have maxed the first part, and failed the second.

The Cowboys can win in the playoffs if they play conservatively like they did with Rush. I just think Jerrah wants Showtime. The team is not built to be a pass first offense. I think the Cowboys could be like Tennessee if they decide to change their philosophy.
