Jerry's at it again. Yet another Super Bowl week has come, and his dreg of a team is long an afterthought by now. That loss to Philly seems like months ago.

So, on a Tuesday before the Super Bowl, Jerry does what he could have done three weeks ago, or three weeks from now. He shakes up the coaching staff so ESPN and the locals have to stop down and talk Cowboys for half a minute.

Same song, different verse.

And lest you worry, you can count on another "breaking news flash" once the Rangers are about to start up their campaign here shortly. Dallas will fire a coach or sign a guard that day, no doubt. Jerry enjoys stealing the spotlight at every turn, especially against the much-better-run local sports franchises.

Sadly, whoring out bit news like that is all that keeps Jerry in the news. Reporters roll their eyes, knowing that the Cadillac brand still requires a presser and a sounder, although the actual product has gone the way of a rusted Pontiac. Jerry has applied 17 years of Earl Sheib paint jobs to this jalopy, even though it's about to roll over 400,000 miles.

Fast forward to May.

Lurking is a singularly horrifying thought for Jethro. Stepchild Houston sits on the No. 1 overall pick with an already impressive roster, and waiting is every young Texas kids' favorite player, Johnny Football. A loyal-to-a-fault fanbase of Aggies, many sick of Jerry's repetitious incompetence, are ready to transfer their loyalty to Manziel's new home.

Jerry's desperately hopes Houston will resist the urge to pounce on the PR extravaganza of drafting JFF. I don't think they can resist. Many, including yours truly, think Manziel will bust in the pros, but that doesn't matter one bit as far as Jerry is concerned.

For 2 or 3 years, all eyes and a public relations freight train will set their sites on Houston. It'll be Johnny and the Texans all the time. And God forbid if the kid can play. Jerry will lose two entire generations of fans. Houston will be stepchild no more.

And so it is this. Kiffin to President Emeritus status, pass-happy Linehan to replace Callahan. Spending blasphemy has rendered free agency a game for other teams yet again.

That's the sum total of relevance Jerry can drum up.

Sad but true. The only sliver of positivity is that maybe Jerry will finally go through some pain. For us it's because of chronic mediocrity, for him it will be in the relevance column.

If the Texans draft JFF, mark my words, there will be 40-50% Texans fans in our stadium for next year's game.

I agree with you this is a nightmare scenario for Jerry Jones. Houston's economy is on the rise, their revenue numbers are very good, they've already thrown a better Super Bowl than us and will get another one before Dallas, they already have a pretty stacked roster, all they need is the superstar quarterback. If they draft JFF, you're looking at a cataclysmic shift in NFL fandom within the state for the next decade.

As it's been for the past 18 years...JJ keeps making money....doubt he really cares what the Texans do. I think it would take Dallas going a few years with 3,4,5 wins before JJ does something drastic.

Jerry doesn't care. Texans fans also pay $80 for pizza and $9 for beer. So it's all the same to him.

As long as the turnstiles churn and there's butts in the seats, you can cheer for anybody you want.

Jerry has to be hit in the wallet before real changes are made and AT&T being half full with Texans fans doesn't accomplish that.

I can't believe 'whoring' isn't caught in the filter.

Good post. Kind of points out the fundamental issue of having your owner and GM as the same person-- conflicts of interest within the same entity, and the wrong side is winning out.

I don't watch much college football a all, but I did try and watch Manziel play whenever I could. The kid was exciting to watch. I really hope the Texans do draft Johnny Football since the Texans games are always on TV where I live.

In a season where I don't believe the Boys will do very well, it would be nice to watch JF operate when the Texans play at a different time then the Boys.

I also believe if JF does well, it will steal a lot of future fans from the Boys to the Texans. If we are lucky, this will finally force Jerry to back off a little and hire a real HC and let him actually coach.

Texans would be foolish to pass up on JD Clowney. Him opposite Ware would be a nightmare for offenses.

There were already going to be tons there anyway but I think you are absolutely right on all points.

I don't think Jerry is as much a ***** for attention as it is made out to be. He loves the team, has put his heart and soul into the organization and as I have said many times, no one wants to win more than he does. He isn't going anywhere. I love the guy to be honest. He cares about the players and the guys that have played for him in the past love the guy. He makes mistakes, as we all do. No one is perfect but Jerry is not Al Davis 2.0......not even close.

When he is right no one says squat and when he is wrong he gets hammered. He takes input from the people around him and makes the best decision possible to make the team better. Some times it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't know Linehan from a can of paint. I would just as soon see JG call the plays. He was supposed to let BC call the plays to better his situational awareness and game management but I didn't see a drastic improvement. I thought he called a couple decent games after the Packers debacle.

I respectfully disagree. I think Jerry is a media ***** & he's been that way well for decades. He is VERY close to being Al but at one time Al had a brilliant football mind. He really was that football guy Jerry so wants to be known for first & foremost.

Erod. Always read your stuff. Good perspective with the right touch of humor. Great read.
