I knew the adoption rate of tablets were booming, but I didn't think it was at this rate. A quarter of all adults in the US now own tablets. I believe there is an estimate of about somewhere between 3 million Nexus 7s have been sold in three months and are estimating 3-5 million more units for the 4th quarter bring the total somewhere between 6-8 million for the year.
This doesn't even consider iPads, Kindles Fires, and other Samsung / Asus tablets.
That said, I still think people are foolish when they say that the PC is going away. That just isn't happening any time soon. Maybe not as many people will need one anymore, but those that do can't replace them with a tablet.

Study shows 25% of Americans own a tablet
In a report released yesterday, the Pew Internet & American Life Project puts ownership of tablet computing devices at 25 percent among American adults. This breaks down almost evenly into "iPads" and "everything else," with 52 percent of tablet owners using an Apple device and 48 percent with some flavor of Android-powered tablet. The growth in tablet ownership over the last year has been tremendous, with the study pointing out that 68 percent of tablet-owning adults have purchased their device within the past twelve months.
