Stuff I learned today

Last night, I learned that most Tesla owners have no idea how to parallel park. This is probably the 10th time I had the pleasure to witness such a maneuver. I even think they can park themselves, not sure though.

So, I am out walking the dogs and saw a Tesla trying to park in a space that could fit my Ram truck, twice! I knew it was not going to go well almost immediately. She kept trying for a few minutes, almost had it too. About 5 minutes later, she was perpendicular in the huge space :lmao:

She did keep trying, took out the curb a few time but eventually quit and sped off. I saw her park a block away in a normal parking lot of a swim school. That is where she was going to in the first place, I saw her walk in with a kid

I say at least once a week, "I can't believe how many people are so bad at this!!", as I watch idiot after idiot try to one-up each other in the dummy department.

Thomas Jefferson was so poverty stricken at the end of his life (largely because of buying books)...that he sold his library.
The government bought them
That become the nucleus of "The Library of Congress"

Jefferson used some of that money.... to buy more books.

One the the facts about Jefferson I have always found pretty interesting is that he died on July 4th. And so did John Adams, only 15 years later..

Nods

The election of 1880 pitted them against each other
It was pretty nasty
Jefferson’s supporters accused Adams of having a “hideous hermaphroditical character,” while Adams’ camp called Jefferson “a mean-spirited, low-lived fellow.”

I'm just glad that they were able to repair their relationship before Jefferson passed
The final letters between them are pretty great

Adams last words... "Thomas Jefferson survives"

I was invited, but the thought of a spinach cake was too much.

What I learned today is despite prices of alcohol hardly rising over the last few years at liquor stores, they continue to rise at restaurants.

That's the overhead rising. In order to pay for heat, electricity, employee wages, insurance, EGGS, etc., etc., etc., the price of everything goes up.

But you were probably just being facetious, so...forget I said anything.

Henry Winkler was offered the role of Danny in Grease. Turned it down as he was afraid he'd become typecast.
Understandable, after having played Fonzie already, but he probably didn't realize how believable he'd be as a dorky little wuss.

Yeah, I know why they do it, but at some point, and with certain items, you can make less by charging more. I paid 9 bucks for a beer at a chain restaurant. Not a pint, 12oz. Another 9 and I can buy the 12 pack of the same beer. When it was around 5-6 bucks a beer, I normally drank two. Now I drank 1.

I know what you mean. On the rare occasion that I go out, I drink Captain and Coke, and it's usually around $9.00. Then you add in the tip, and after 3 drinks, you could have bought a handle.

Yeah, I drink something similar on occasion. I usually drink two of whatever I am drinking. But as you can see, that has been limited. The last time I went out it was 6 bucks a beer. There was a time I used to go out a lot.

Thousands of middle-aged people in Britain are dying prematurely every year as a result of ultra-processed foods, a study has suggested.

Researchers analysed the diets of eight countries then estimated the number of deaths linked to an over-reliance on foods such as ready meals, confectionery, fizzy drinks and processed meat.

The study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, said that about 18,000 deaths in people aged 30 to 69 could be prevented each year in Britain if people ate less ultra-processed foods (UPFs).

The term refers to mass-produced foods with multiple ingredients and additives that could not be created in a home kitchen. UPFs make up more than half of the typical British diet.

Diets high in UPF have been linked to an increased risk of 32 different diseases, including diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity and depression.
