Another natural remedy to dry/clear sinuses is a neti pot. If you have never used one before, you may or may not like it.

You use warm water and a "salt" packet that comes with it. It looks like a genie lamp with a long tip and you lean over the sink while sticking the end in one nostril, then slowly pouring the fluid into your nose. It makes its way through your sinuses, then out the other nostril into the sink. Then you just blow your nose a few times afterward to get out any loose snot or remaining liquid.

You have to make sure you breathe through your mouth, and don't panic if you start to feel like you are drowning. :D

Faerluna, you are right about the neti pot.

All her life my wife has had allergies and sinus problems and has taken a small mountain of pills rhat hasve cost a fortune but a couple of years ago she got a neti pot and has been using it regularly and has not had any allergies or sinus problems since and doesn't rake any medication at all any more.

It really is a nice, affordable alternative to taking lots of medicine. It's also useful if you try not to self-medicate more than necessary, which is also my position.

I forgot about the neti pot. I hated it the first time my wife made me use it but it works really well.

Pouring salt water in your nose can't be enjoyable. (re neti pot)

It's not like pure salt. They also suggest that you start by using half a pack of the salts and work your way up from there.

The thing that works best for me is start taking Cold-FX right at the first sign of a cold. I used to get terrible nasal congestion and sinus infections when I had colds but now with Cold-FX I usually don't even need to use anything.

I don't think it is readily available in the US but it is a herbal extract of ginseng developed by a company up here in Edmonton. It really works well causes me no side effects (unlike decongestants).
