I'm all set for installation today, being told that the installer should be herebetween 8-12pm. I took today off from work and everything. A few minutes ago, I received a call from them saying that their technician's car broke down and their other tech is on another island and unable to come today. (Of course this did not stop them from withdrawing the $300 from my account for the two HD-DVRS)

Now I have to take another day off and wait for them again on Friday.

suffice to say, I'm not in the best of moods right now.

I do plan to call the customer retention line after they install, you guys think I can get any favorable deals/credits to my account?

Yes, let them know you are un-happy and considering canceling unless they make all your dreams come true.:D

Seriously though if you ask for any current specials like free show time for 3 months you may get it.

I'm thinking of maybe asking for the sports pack free for six months or something.

I already have Showtime, HBO and STARZ! for free for three months already.

I bought an HD receiver from them A MONTH ago.

The day we bought it DTV told us to expect a call anytime the next week to set up an installation appointment. No call came. We called DTV and were told that we CANCELLED the appointment. We told them we never even received a call.

Anyway, we were called to make an appointment the next day. The installation company told us the earliest they could come was in three weeks on Sat (this last Sat). We waited ALL DAY for them to show up.

We finally called the installers and were told they no longer serviced our area. We then furiously called DTV....they told us they weren't aware of the situation. They scrambled to find another installer and told us to wait 72 hours for another call.

No call came.

I furiously called again....making sure to let the operator know my anger wasn't directed at her. After waiting 30 minutes I was finally told that they were still struggling to find installers in my area (Bolivar, MO). Anyway, they agreed to let me have 3 months free HBO and Cinemax (great for Hard Knocks) and a $10 credit the next three months.

I was told to expect a call tomorrow.

I am beginning to wonder if I spent all this money on my HDTV for nothing.

DirecTV's customer service is the worst. The only reason I keep them is because of Sunday Ticket (which is like $350 this year with Superfan. ) and the HD programming.

The reason I finally broke down this year and got the Direct TV was due to the Ticket. I have a new job that requires I work some Sundays (not all, thankfully) and if the Cowboys were for some reason not the local game, I could still record it.

Directv has the worst customer service on the planet.

the people are rude, stupid and lazy.

I have had ongoing problems with them. I still havent had a problem from 3 months ago fixed and a credit that was promised to me still hasnt been made good on.

I just dont feel like sitting on the phone for an hour arguing with anybody at the moment to have it resolved.

There the worst of the worst. They have more HD channels than anyone and the ticket so like many I am addicted to that.

Only crazy people actually pay for Superfan. Any self respecting person gets it for free.
Glad this thread came up though. Reminds me I have to call them soon about that, and might as well see about getting some free promotional HBO with Hard Knocks coming.

How do you swing that? I got it free last year. It was the first year I had it since I didn't have an HDTV before that.

I had DIRECTV from Feb 94 to March 08 and only dropped it when I went overseas. Of course I did all the installations myself = it really is not hard to do. I never had a problem with their customer service.

I just complain that it's ridiculous to pay for Sunday Ticket. To pay extra for HD service. And then have them expect me to pay another $100 to get Sunday Ticket in HD. If I have to I tell them I'm not watching my football without HD, I'm not paying extra to get it when I'm already paying for it, and if I have to I'll not only cancel Sunday Ticket, but my Directv service completely and go to a sports bar or a friend's place. I have no guilt about it either since it absolutely should NOT cost any extra to get it in HD.

I've heard about their terrible customer service a lot, so I assume there must be a lot of it. My only two experiences:

1. My HD receiver died. Just stopped working. I called them up at 4:30 pm on Friday. They told me they'd send me a new receiver and I should expect it in around 3 business days. Saturday morning at 10am, it shows up.

2. Based on what I read here last year, I called customer retention and complained about having to pay for Superfan when all I want is my games in HD. They gave it to me for free, no questions asked. I plan to do the same this year.

So I guess I've been lucky so far. Knock on wood.

Typically they don't offer up the deals unless you have some time spent with them.

You should be getting this though.

Superfan

Thats a pretty good deal right there. I haven't had DTV for a year now because I can't get it in the building but when I informed them I was leaving, they threw that out there to try and keep me just to rub salt in the wound I guess.

You get almost every game in HD with that. You also get Shortcuts which is like a 30 minute version of every game. That would be sweet to have and even sweeter if someone had that and a capture card so they could upload it. You also get the channel that has like 8 games on 1 screen, each in a little box.

As far as what you will get as compensation, you should get something but I doubt it. Start high, ask for a break on the price of your service for the next year and if they refuse then tell em' you want the DVR fee to be covered for the next year. If you have to, threaten to cancel and then call back in a week or two and set something back up.

I honestly don't see how they could top Dell, Microsoft, ATT or DLink.
