Stupid Moves of the Past: Kevin Mathis

Watching the Falcons-Eagles game I was reminded of Kevin Mathis. Mathis was a decent CB for us -- his final season with us (1999) he was our best CB for several games.

So what does Jerry do? Draft Goodrich, Larrimore, and Edwards. Thinking Mathis was too small, we trade him for some LB who doesn't make the roster. Mathis goes on to have a solid career. He may never be a top CB but he's a solid 3rd guy. We never even gave Mathis a shot at competing for the position -- which is a shame since he would have probably beat out the rookies.

Mathis turned into nothing more than a #3 CB for New Orleans, who would only offer him vet's minimum to return. No one else wanted him.

Big woop. We dumped crap for crap. No loss.

How about Anthony Wright? He has more of an NFL career than either Carter or Hutchinson, both of whom Dallas preferred.

Crap? Who is still in the league? That's a pretty good measure.

I'm not losing any sleep over Kevin Mathis being elsewhere, and niehter is anyone in Dallas...guy prob wouldnt even make our roster now, let alone be active as a nickel back

He could have been on the roster any year prior to this one though. Jerry gets in love with guys who look like players -- so much so that he tosses good players who don't have the right size

Yes, instead let's talk about Antonio Bryant.

Instead let's talk about Crayton. And also Keyshawn, Glenn and a possible impact by Peerless. Let's also talk about beating a good team like San Diego and Drew Bledsoe. Etc,etc, etc and on and on and on.

There's no reason to be whining about past failures when there's alot of good things happening. The year is ahead not behind.

I think ya'll are missing the issue. If we still had Kevin Mathis he could fight Jeremiah Trotter before we play them week 5 and get him tossed.

When we're reduced to pining for career backups it has indeed become ludicruous.

There are a lot of things I'm mad about during the Jerry Jones learning years, but Kevin Mathis is one that doesn't make me lose sleep. It's the drafts that make me chew my pillow!

Mathis Tears Ligaments in Practice

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons cornerback Kevin Mathis, who was kicked out of the season opener against Philadelphia after a scuffle in pregame warmups, won't be playing this week, either.

According to ESPN.com, Mathis tore three ligaments in the knee. He not only is done for the season but also could be finished for his career.

You guys are arguing about someone who will be sacking groceries along with Quincy in a few weeks ..................
