The Panther's scored on the last play of the game clock is at :00 nothing new there but they made the Panther's kick the extra point; which is the first time I've ever seen that. Is this a new rule it makes no sense to possibly injure a player (kicker) on a useless play, he could easily slip or twist a knee.

EDIT: Does the NFL have the rule that if a extra point is blocked and returned the other way it's 2pts, like College? if so that could be the reason since the Panther's where only up by 1. Does anyone know?

They've always done this at the end of regulation. I believe it's so teams can get the point for posterity and in case it comes down to total points in a tie breaker at the end of the season.

I believe in OT they don't kick the extra point.

NT is correct. it is to make the tie breakers easier at the end of the year.

I do wish they had the HS and College rules of the defense being able to return a missed PAT or 2pt conversion the other way for a defensive 2pt conversion. It sure would at a bit more excitement to those plays.

That's interesting I've never in the 33 years I've been watching the NFL seen a extra point kicked at end of regulation when it didn't matter...

That would have been cool if the Chargers had won on that play. However, Norv's teams don't have that kind of luck.

Depending on the point spread, that one point could be worth a lot of money to some.

And the Panthers didn't have to kick it. They could have just went for two and took a knee if they were worried about injury.

It wouldn't have mattered if they had the 2pt rule.

The panthers would have come out and taken a knee and game over.

Its to just get things over with. No need.
