ah hell, that applies to players also. how often do people get mad the player didn't live up to draft position but was still a solid player? far too often in here. if a #1 pick doesn't play all that well but is still a better than average player, people freak. expectations are a ***** for everyone and no one can be more ruthless than the fan with no skin in the game, just lip service and demanding more for the little $ they spend.

when the eagles go out and hype up kelly and he takes over fanning those flames, you set yourself up just as much.

that's true,self promotion isn't a pretty sight
as has repeatedly been observed, The results of Kelly's off season will be telling

Rejoice my friends, for this Robin Hood, Prince of Scum Bags, will soon be captured, set upon flames, and vanish in the air as smoke from a fire in not many moons to come.

I've heard a few Chip Kelly pressers and been impressed by the way he talks. He's all business, all football, all coach. I would not want him in Dallas, though. I think his philosophy on personnel is questionable at best, and the whole up-tempo thing is a gimmick that won't last in the NFL.

I agree completely with Sturm. Had any other second-year coach slashed his roster and ditched a Foles for a Bradford, the media would be eating him alive.

I must just be a hate-filled person. I'm hoping Philly has an embarrassing season and rooting HARD for the Rams.

Kelly has been dumping talent from that team like crazy. Sure he got some good free agents but time will tell if that works.

i can understand letting mccoy go this year as it seems Kelly wanted a different type of runner and i dont think the two saw eye to eye on a number of things. I think there were some ego's and attitude issues there.

But I dont see how he is improving the team with the QB moves he has made, that is puzzling to me as well as letting Maclin go so that they are really raw at wr.

Then letting both starting guards go this year is really asking for trouble IMO. I really cant see how they dont take a step back this year. They have absolutely no depth at a number of positions on that team.

I agree that he is trying to do too much, being coach, in charge of player personel and calling the plays.

I actually hate most everything Kelly has done (or love it from a Cowboys fan point of view).

Jettisoning his best players, building from the outside in, not drafting an offensive lineman in 14 rounds, hurry up offense that keeps his defense on the field.

If someone were running the Cowboys that way, I would not be happy.

...Dear Bob-

I have been meaning to write you about this for some time because, while I do enjoy your work for the most part, I do find your feelings about Chip Kelly to be ridiculous.

All the guy has done is reinvigorate the football world at both the college and pro level in the last decade (from out of nowhere) and in doing so has seen the game from a different perspective and has made many teams change how they approach every last detail of how the NFL does business.

Then, he has won 10 games in his first 2 years and has turned around an organization that Andy Reid ran into the ground. And yet, you, with all of your coaching wins, sits here and takes shots at Chip Kelly every chance you get as over-rated and a short-timer in the NFL.

You realize he will be running the NFC East (and threatening for Super Bowls) for the next decade, right? I would love for you to offer real reasons why you are so strongly in the Anti-Kelly camp.

Otherwise, keep up the good work,

Tim

In fairness to Tim, I receive this email (or one sort of like it) about twice a week during the season. And, in fairness to Chip Kelly, I feel as I do about the future of the Eagles for a number of reasons (which I will attempt to detail this morning). But, my overall view on the current state of the Eagles franchise is admittedly more of an overall view of the media and how we cover the NFL in this current form. It seems like most of the media, especially those that present themselves as coming from a deeper intellectual view of the sport than the old guard, like to prop Kelly and everything he does as basically this decade’s version of Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s after Michael Lewis’ game-changing book Moneyball was released...

He can be Billy Beane.

Billy never won jack.

Reid did not run the Eagles into the ground.
After you win for a few years in the NFL the drafting to replace get's harder and harder.
Yes. Eagles did have drafts with multiple extra picks. But that talent did not pan out.
Kelly got rid of his top 3 offensive performers in the past 2 years.
While they say one thing the QB is downplayed in his offense. The modern NFL is QB driven.
Just saying....
