What I liked: Well, there is plenty to like. He is a very physical force who is a destroyer-type looking for his keys, diagnosing them, and then hitting his gap with intent. He is low to the ground when he plays so he is tough to block when he gets rolling downhill. Between the tackles, he is a bit like Rolando McClain with a physical edge you really like to see from that position. On a defense where they use the linebackers aggressively and heading north more often than not, he might be perfect. He seems a natural for the A-Gap blitzing where he gets on a guard and can push him right back into the QB. He also makes a number of tackles behind the line of scrimmage by just beating his block and getting upfield. This is where is excellent. He is a very aggressive and confident player.

I really like him but I'm not sure the team will. They like taller players and they might feel like MLB isn't close to a need with Lee and possibly McClain already in the fold.

But just as far as the player goes without taking need into consideration, I really like Perryman.

Kind of a two down thumper to be compared to Lewis isn't he?

I think Perryman might be a little better in coverage than what Sturm is saying in this article. Maybe he is a two down guy but I'm not convinced of that. The times I watched him this year he looked pretty comfortable dropping in coverage... although I admittedly probably didn't see him as much as Sturm did for this piece.

I don't think he does go to Dallas anyway because Dallas has Lee and McClain and I think that Rolando comes back.

Anyway, I wouldn't go so far as saying Perryman is a pet cat of mine but I do like his play a whole lot.

If you were targeting a LB at 27 do you go Dawson or Perryman for Cowboys.

Dawson. He is just so well rounded and has exactly what Marinelli would want in an OLB, While Perryman is a thumper and adds the physical player in the middle, Dawson is undoubtedly better in coverage than him. Dawson has more range too IMO. Plus he has some more length than Perryman and has a higher ceiling.

IMO, Dallas will like Dawson more too. He just fits the scheme to a tee.

As far as 43 OLB's go in this draft, I don't think there is anyone I like as much as Dawson.

Having said all that though... I like Perryman's game a whole lot.

For a 1st/2nd round LB, I don't want anybody that has question marks in coverage. They play Nickel over 50% of the snaps. and you want good coverage guys in those spots. The WLB definitely need to be a good coverage guy. That just leaves the MLB and SLB in the base as situations where a limited coverage guy would play.

If Perryman was available in the 3rd, then I can live with limited coverage abilities.

reminds me of Ray Lewis

He is nothing like Ray Lewis.....think Sam Mills or London Fletcher. People are gonna be shocked when he drops in the draft. Good player...but over -rated. He's barely 5'10.....and that's pretty small for a LBer
