If we let him walk, how long until the Commanders sign him to an 8 year, $64 million contract?

This is what I have tried to find reasoning for why we shouldn't. I've yet to find a reason. Anybody have any reasoning as to why we shouldn't?

Because it is a waste of money and valuable cap space. His franchise number would be 9.25m next year and another 20% on top of that for 2016. For 20m the Cowboys could sign him to a 5yr/35m deal(10m signing bonus and 20m guaranteed) and get 3 extra years of control with a cap number around 5m.

As we saw with Spencer, if he gets hurt that huge cap number is inflexible. With a much smaller cap number to start with, a replacement could be had in case of an injury. If he continues to excel then the team has control and leverage. If he falls off or gets injured the team can spread the cap hit over 3-4 years instead of one or two.

Players and agents act like they hate the franchise tag, but in reality they love it. They get paid huge up front and are still FAs at the end of the year. Spencer couldn't sign his tag fast enough and lost all interest in signing an extension once he signed it. Considering the depressed market for RBs, Murray would sign it right away and Dallas would lose all leverage. Remember, the tag must be offered in early March, before Free Agency even begins.

Well, with Dez moving on from his agent, maybe he does want a Tyron deal? I hope he does.

That is what i am hoping for. Parker would not help negotiate a deal that was both long and not frontloaded. He is gone.

The Witten and Smith deals are examples of the parameters the Cowboys likely find ideal. They can also point to both being Cowboys for life. I can see Dez wanting that too.

Dez is a smart man. A Cowxboy. I think he wants to stay a Cowboy.

I read something not long ago on the overwhelming evidence that handing out the franchise tag was akin to stupidity. In the vast majority of the time the player underperformed (quite often greatly underperformed) after being tagged.

Some guys treat it like a 'contract' year and go all out for their next contract, but some guys take it as a business decision and sulk around trying to avoid getting hurt.

Murray's fumbles have driven his leverage down by a lot. Just makes me sick to watch him lose the ball almost every game.
