Offensive plays breakdown Sunday night versus the Giants.

Sturm article.

We ran 32 plays in Shotgun 11. We were behind and had to rally so this chunk makes sense as to the bulk of the plays being here. 8.3 yards a play.

I find it interesting that the next highest is the 12 package, and one I think we need to use more of without Dez.
That grouping avg 5.5 yards a play. This is the Escobar package and one that I think has the most upside in the next few weeks.

Its also obvious Linehan doesn't think we are a power run team yet. 0 plays from the 22 personnel.
This is the classic power run look. Smash mouth football. Apparently the staff feels like most fans. We aren't ready for that yet. And it might have to do with we were playing from behind also, so no power 3rd down runs when trailing, makes this formation less useful also. Although I think we can use it more as a passing formation and try to get match-ups on short passes with Lbers trying to cover Witten and Escobar. In addition, this is the package where CMike will be useful if he can live up to his hype and reputation.

I think further proof we are not ready for smash mouth football is the 21 package.
6 plays 20 yards. The 21 was the 2014 Murray bread and butter, as well as the Dallas glory days running package. 3.33 avg. Again we were behind so didn't get a chance to lean on the Giants and use our Line. Hopefully this area improves. We will need it. Playing with a lead helps so much. If we can get this avg closer to 3.9 to 4.3 range it will help a ton.

The 11 (3-wide).
The 11 package only avg 2.5 a play. Again without Dez this package is not very effective bc the personnel is not there IMO. Maybe Street or Lucky can step up because this is where they will be used.

Next week we will compare and see if we start to notice trends. Enjoy.

I like the sound of a 13 package: Witten at Y, Hanna at H, Escobar in the slot and TWill wide, with Dunbar behind Romo.

That would be a nice mix it up package for sure. We could run that little pitch toss play the Garret used to run so much.

Yeh. Next play, fake the toss, let Witten clear out underneath and send Hanna (Swaim?), Escobar and TWill long. Then hit Dunbar on a deep wheel down the sideline!

Lucky didn't look like he was ready for primetime yet and neither did Street. I think our best option is to use these 4 TE's we have on the roster and a heavy dose of the screen/ dump passes.

Escobar is quite a player, and the 12 package is why he was drafted, and now its time to use it.

Escobar and Hanna were brought into Dallas because they were pass catchers in college. It's time to take advantage of that fact and let them flex their abilities.

The only immediate issue I see is Barwin and Alonso are pretty good in coverage. But I still like our chances of LB vs TE.

Barwin is also Philadelphia's best pass rusher so if they are dropping him in coverage then Romo is gonna have all day to throw just like against New York. T-Will is no Julio Jones, but we saw how Maxwell struggled with his speed and Terrance will have that same advantage.

I think that game was a bit of an arbitration as the play calling started to have to chase the turnovers but….one of the critical items of the JG led offensive era has been easy to read "tells" that the formations & personal always give a defense. You can see that evident in the pass-run ratios for the formations. Something to watch as the season goes on…last year they mixed it up well untill the end of the year.

I have my eye on Linehan. He has always had a star WR on his teams. Dez, CJ, Holt, Moss
Wonder how the play calling goes with out one

Philly's Lbers are pretty swift. I wonder how Linehan and Garret plan to attack Philly?

Watching him struggle w/ that speed I wonder if it'd be worth putting Whitehead out wide early and just let him go to see how PHI reacts. He'd be a decoy but would give Dallas a look at how they'd react to it and if its' worth trying w/ the other WRs (read: TWill)

I'm gonna guess we'll go after their CBs. :)

I like our TEs on both their CBs and their LBs just fine. I think well spread them out, but speed in the backfield, and rely on our OGs to get to the second level in the running game where they should have success. Downfield, they might cover Beasley with a LB, but they won't be able to do that with Escobar. If they bring in the extra DB it'll come down to how our front handles theirs. If they don't, I'll take the matchups of our TEs against their coverage LBs all day. As good as those LBs are, it's still a mismatch for us.

Defensively, we're going to have to activate Coleman and Russel and rotate heavily between series. We're going to be able to exploit the middle of that OL, and we've go the speed at LB to at least contain Sproles. If we maintain gap control in the running game, I'm pretty happy with how we matchup with them as long as we don't wear down late in the game.
