I can't link it. You know where he is. In his most recent piece he makes the following statement when asked how the personnel packages on offense will change this year under McCarthy.

After breaking down their personnel usage last season he says the following:

Somehow, this team was so ill-prepared at receiver that it had to basically stop running its offense because it did not have NFL wide receivers anymore.

-

Whoa. Now let's say he's right. Pretty damning of the front office but does Brandin Cooks change that? Obviously he helps but is that enough? Are we going to rely on a rebuilt (and overrated) Michael Gallup and a Jalen Tolbert sighting (other than a few blurred images floating around the internet) so we are free to run the offense we want to run this year?

I like Brandin Cooks and he certainly is worth the cost to obtain him but the WR position still makes me feel uncomfortable. I want to surround Prescott with so many weapons that even he can beat the 49ers in January.

AdminEdit:

This thread is about RECEIVERS, not Dak Prescott.

Does not matter if you are a Dak hater or homer. Use one of the many other threads to post your constantly repeated opinions on Dak.

The bet on MG from the FO is in play for sure and I like you have my doubts, I do think they grab a WR in the draft though, how early will tell us alot about what they think they have for sure.

I think it was a mistake to count on Gallup to be 100% last season.

It’d be another mistake to overcompensate and figure that he still won’t be right for the coming one.

Tolbert was the big mistake.

Overrating Noah Brown for what seems like the fifteenth season in a row was another.

I dont think its stupid Jazz, they paid a hurt MG and he played like he was at 50% throw in Noah Brown and having to sign TY.. it has merit in my opinion.
I meant saying they abandoned it, as they did not have any WR's. That is just stupid.

No matter what they paid Gallup, he still produced, just not the way fans wanted him to produce. Wait to see if he picks it up this season. A lot of other things went wrong last season. But a lot of things went right.
12-5 and 1-1 in the playoffs, where Dak threw 2 crucial INT's. How is that the WR's failed...12-5....someone was catching the ball.....

Gallup should be much improved this season, and that would make a lot of sense.

But between Cooks, a better Gallup and a likely high draftee….and the idea of wanting to run more, or maybe adding a 1st round TE…..they will have done enough by the time the bell rings.

It’s a matter of avoiding the injury bug and executing.

They could have altered the offense to fit around other weapons. They didn’t use Pollard nearly enough in the running and passing game. Screens anyone!?!? They could have used their TE’s a lot more Instead they ( Moore ) continued to try to use Zeke in the same form or plays , Zeke up the middle or the dump off in the flat that yielded little to nothing. The limited times Ferguson touched the ball, he looked damn good. Herndershot was another that was effective, when used. We had the horses, the play caller would/ never adjust the game plan to utilize them in new ways. We certainly watched other teams do it to us with screens, Miss direction , exposing the middle of our defense with mismatches. Not buying it.

His point is they did alter the offense and use more 12 and 13 personnel than 11.

That's right folks. CeeDee Lamb is officially chopped liver now.

I was just wondering the same thing.

The Cowboys signed James Washington (not expecting him to get injured before the season started) and expected Gallup back early in the season to pair with Lamb and Brown.

In addition, the Cowboys had young receivers on the roster and wanted to see if one of them would step up.

Worst case, the Cowboys knew there would be veteran receivers available after week #1 (to avoid guaranteed salary) if necessary.

I do not disagree that the Cowboys handled the WR position poorly last year after trading Cooper, but this sounds like Sturm is desperate for clicks with this type of sensationalized statement claiming "they had no NFL wide receivers".

Bengals
JaMar Chase Draft grade 7.12 R1 P5
Tyler Boyd Draft grade 6.4 R2 P24
Tee Higgins Draft grade 6.37 R2 P1

Cowboys
Cee Dee Lamb Draft Grade 6.81 R1 P17
Jalen Tolbert Draft Grade 6.21 R 3 P24
Michael Gallup Draft Grade 6.2 R3 P17

Cooks was a necessity and with 8 WRs with starting grades in this years draft (last year there were 5) it would be an absolute crime to let two third round picks stop them from drafting one of them.

Better to have 5 really good receivers than 2 great ones. Dallas has historically been top-heavy at receiver, with little quality depth. The team often needs to line up 3-4 receivers, and it's an injury prone position. You need depth! Lamb pulls a hamstring, and all of a sudden you are in real trouble.

This is the issue I’m having with a lot of this hindsight opinions….if Dak sucks, Mike can’t coach, Zeke is finished….receivers suck….how in the hell did we win 12 games? Especially with Jerry at GM? It’s not adding up.
