I agree there's often a lot of hyperbole mixed in around a core of a good idea somewhere. This is the issue I’m having with a lot of this hindsight opinions….if Dak sucks, Mike can’t coach, Zeke is finished….receivers suck….how in the hell did we win 12 games? Especially with Jerry at GM? It’s not adding up.
It's why we post on a Cowboys board, to vent, to criticize, to hear counter opinions, enjoy the interaction, and hopefully get better as fans.
Football is such a team sport that it's impossible to say whether it's the QB, RB, OL, WRs, coaching, schedule strength or even the wind, field quality, or strength and conditioning that contributed most to a record.
In my opinion, last year's overall success had a lot to do with a high level of average talent combined with the weakest strength of schedule the Cowboys (and Eagles for that matter) have had in a long time.
The WR's were not good last year relative to the prior year, that's for sure. Sturm went a bit over-the-top calling them not NFL caliber, but he's right about 2022 Gallup and Noah Brown each improperly being consistently used as as a #2 and #3 WR respectively. Each was likely two rungs higher than they should have been, thanks to the front office getting mad at the teams' best WR and trading him away for a song and also letting Cedric Wilson go for no good reason.
