I thought the overall defense look refreshed and swarmed to the ball. They looked like last years D actually.

Can't wait for the Decoding Linny! That should take 2 sentences!!

Agreed. If this defense keeps showing up we can be in any game with anyone.
If this defense keeps showing up and also starts getting turnovers, the sky's the limit.

Great read as always.

I winced at the reference to Jim Hasslet owing Jason...

Perhaps 2 sentences would suffice. But I remember when we played Detroit a few years back and he was the Lions offensive coordinator he moved Megatron all over the place and he had a huge day against us. Never understood why Dez hasn't been used in that manner by Linehan. His play calling is conservative and uber predictable here.

As always, great post Sturminator! Is there any chance we can get you to talk more in depth about the stunts and slants by the defensive line? To me, that was one of the most significant differences last night, even more than blitzing. As tremendous as Hardy, Lawrence and even Irving have looked when they've actually moved the defensive line around, why haven't they gone to that more? Even Gregory, though he has played sparingly, looks unblockable when he cuts inside on the stunts.

I certainly hope this game was more of an evolution of the defense, than an exception. I thought what Rod did was the best coaching we have seen on a Dallas sideline in quite some time. The late touchdown aside, he took advantage of our strengths without exposing our weaknesses. Even on that final play, if we have Scandrick in the lineup, I think you see him over Jackson and Jones as the deep safety and I think that becomes a toss up 50/50 play.

It was also exceptional and completely unorthodox for Rod to zone blitz and drop his DE's and even a DT once, into coverage. He started doing this as they started going to the flats. An actual in-game adjustment. Something we aren't used to seeing much from this staff.

Thanks again, Sturm. I always appreciate a real X's and O's breakdown.
