Nice piece, Bob.

So strange to see this from a Marinelli-coached defense. Takeaways are his calling card. Perhaps it's just an unlucky run (and further evidence that the 2015 edition of the Dallas Cowboys may be star-crossed).

Even though it was overturned, Church damn near caused Jones to drop it. Most of these guys aren't getting close enough to even deflect passes, much less pick them off. Jones seems to be the exception.

I like jones and the flexibility he brings.... in today's game you need great safties with range and jones brings that and its the first time since woodson we have a player that can cover from safety spot, which allows the DC to do different things. I know we have CB concerns, but in today's TE driven game we need a safety with range and covering ability and I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Church (good understanding of responsibilities but lacks athleticim and rnage) or Wilcox (athletic but lost) and it looks like with the splits we saw, we are going that direction.

I also think TO are going to come in bunches...flood gates will open as our pass rush gets better, we will see turn overs....hopefully they will start to come this next couple of games. I think once Dez comes back, that's going to help the offense, but is going to force other offenses to be more aggressive and not play conservative so we will see more TOs

I'm inclined to believe that our issues with takeaways are a spiritual problem. The reason why Jones is an exception is because he's a rookie that hasn't been cursed yet. We need a fan that will be bold enough to run on the field and sprinkle these guys with holy water.

I think part of the problem is that opponent offenses play conservatively because they are not threatened by the Cowboys offense. This gives the Cowboys less opportunities for INTs.

Think about how Weed played, especially early in games where he was so conservative that it was highly unlikely that the opponent defense would get and INT.

A team like the Giants probably figured that they could have a very conservative offensive game plan and still win against the Cowboys.

Obviously earlier in the season the defense dropped several possible INTs but those opportunities seem to have disappeared in more recent games.

I don't think they've disappeared. They had 2 in their hands against Brady (and a fumble bouncing around), and several opportunities against Brees. There wasn't much in this last game except that terrible throw from Eli at Jones' feet, but for the most part, the opportunities have been there.

Great point X! This is similar to when we had the #1 statistical defense in the NFL, but had Qcar at QB and teams knew they didn't have to take chances.
