Citing the 1-6 record in elimination games is not smart or dumb, it's just a fact. It is also a fact that not just Tony underperformed in most of those games, it was largely a team effort, or a lack thereof.

There's nothing factual about elimination games... they are made up nonsense. There's playoff games, and regular season games. Try and keep up.

Ok, I'll try, why don't you work on your verb agreement skills in the interim?

It's not a fact that Tony underperformed in most of those elimination games. Though he did underperform in some of them. Some of the problems were legitimately with the game plan (SEA) or the protections (PHI, NYFG, MIN). And some were just good games with two good teams slugging it out.

Phil Simms chimes in on the Romo contract:

Love Phil backing me up on the elimination game stupidity. Every time I ask KJJ or other Romo haters why no other quarterback in NFL history can ever be found to have played an elimination game, they freeze up like a snow cone.

"“The Dallas Cowboys were probably a 4-12, 6-10 team last year and he was at least fighting to get them into the playoffs to the last game of the year. Now, we’ve all of a sudden created a new stat for Tony Romo, elimination games. We don’t say it about any other quarterback, but elimination games for Tony Romo because it sounds a lot better. ‘We can get more losses on that column.’"
This is thread worthy.
We have too many already, but when a multi-Super Bowl winning QB know more for his knowledge of the game than most chimes in, it's worth noting.

I've been saying all along. The average-joe fan is pretty clueless compared to pretty much every great QB out there who knows exactly what he's watching and is not blinded by emotion. Many of these guys have no reason at all to support Romo--and some can't stand the Cowboys--yet they all seem say the same thing. He's really, really good.

Yeah, perhaps a more accurate statement would be that the passing effort underperformed in most of the games - game plan (last game comes to mind), pass blocking (quite a few) receiver play (a couple of the Giants games) .

Tony is a wonderful athlete and an above average NFL QB. But it takes more than that to win championships.

It takes a leader at QB to drive and inspire a team.

I think that is where Tony is lacking.

And I'd beware of Romo's passing stats; I'd like to see them adjusted for how many times Dallas fell behind early and Romo threw on loose, prevent coverages. He has led charges in the heat of close games, but he also seems to go out and play flat until they fall way behind, way too often.

I'd also like to see the context of his unforced turnovers; my eye test after watching most of the games he has played in tells me many of them came at critical, game-and-momentum changing moments.

I was a big Romo supporter for a long time, but I am resigned to believing he will never win a championship.

Great leaders get the job done and don't need excuses laid on team mates by the fan base.

For the record, Staubach led a team heavy with rookies to the SB once. They were good rookies, but rookies nonetheless.

This along with Garrett not being an inspirational coach/leader is a big challenge for the Cowboys.

I still think they can get it done, however, with all the right pieces added (draft) and a little good luck (health).

I think that when you are 8-8 and had some games you could of won and some games you may have stole, you can make the argument that you can swing either way. We are better than teams like Tampa, Jacksonville, etc., but worse than teams like the Commanders or Houston.

A move like this is the front office thinking that we are going to swing toward the latter. I guess they believe in their ability to improve talent in this year's draft and going forward.

This, and excellent post. How I felt about Bledsoe. There comes a time when you realize it is not working and you have the wrong guy at the helm. And it is not like he is a young guy. Always an excuse why.

Bledsoe was absolutely awful here and nowhere near performing on the high-level of play Romo was and is. The comparison is outrageuosly absurd.
