And one more thing...

Does Jerry realize that it is a really bad idea to tell us that Larry Lacewell, Barry Switzer, and Butch Davis signed off on these picks?

If you are like me, then you feel that the Cowboys are making picks to make up for previous sins. If previous OL picks could play, then maybe they don't need to address the OL. If previous cover LBs could play, then Bruce Carter is not a need because Carpenter is in his prime and Jason Williams is entering his 3rd season. If previous RBs were what Dallas needed, then they don't need Murray.

Previous draft disappointments haunt the Cowboys. And when Jerry tells us that he is not listening to his scouts, but more about how he listens to his old buddies about picks, then we should assume that the draft process has not changed very much. I needed Jerry to tell me that Tom Ciskowski and his staff have targeted this player and we trust them. Instead, he tells me that Switzer signed off on the Cowboys taking an Oklahoma RB.

It might be just a little thing, but that bothered me more than the picks themselves. You have scouts and personnel experts. Use them or fire them and find new ones you do trust.

The process seems to be the same. So, are we crazy for hoping the results to be different?

I see where this is going! lmao

I like the pics, but I have to admit I agree with a lot of what he wrote.

:laugh2: at everyone who said Jerry had changed, had learned his lesson.

:laugh2: Thanks for ripping Jerry a new one. Too bad he"ll never learn.

I guess I haven't been following closely enough... is there any evidence that Jerry is ignoring his scouting staff? Anybody got any links?

Exactly. Just because he asked former coaches or scouts to chime in does that really mean that he is not listening to his scouts. Just like all teams, they all have ties to schools and former employees all over the country.

Media just trying to stir up up the pot.

Hogwash. Every one of the picks so far had a first round grade. Does Sturm think that grade came from Lacewell, Switzer, and Davis too? NO, it came from the scouting dept. Jerry just consulted with them after cosideration was alreay made.

yeah I'm not going to kill Jerry for this draft but neither do I think it's the haul of a lifetime. Hopefully Smith works out for a long time but anybody who thinks Carter can be a better Bradie James is not very realistic, and Murray is a 3rd down back - so what? I guess drafting an ILB in the middle rounds every year is not really that bad of a strategy.

What was among Parcells' first steps here? To bar Lacewell from the VR premises.

Butch Davis hasn't had much success in the NFL lately AFAIK. Barry recruited some good RBs in 1934.

On the positive side:
1. We didn't trade up for these picks.
2. None of these guys have athletic issues they need to overcome. They all can run, look the part etc.
3. We didn't trade picks into next year like Belichick does every year.
4. No position conversions yet (ala Stanback) except moving Carter inside maybe.
5. I'm out of positives. Murray as an all around RB after seeing Felix and Choice pass protect attempts - but Red had input on those picks. Maybe Red was afraid to speak his mind in those days.

With so many pressing needs on the roster, they still want to fix RB? And they get Murray who is best known for his ability to catch the ball. This redundancy with Felix's new-found catching ability is quite a statement.
It's a statement that Choice and Barber weren't producing, and that the short passing game will continue to be more of a focus than power running. Sturm would have had a hard time trying to explain how this reflects negatively on Felix, whose targets will probably actually go up with more snaps. But this guy does have an issue with Felix, that's for sure.

FWIW Davis was asked if Jerry called and said no, but Ciskowski called around and did lots of homework on him.

Another good article from the best Cowboys reporter in the business.

I understand the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleading Sqaud is going go be mad because he bags on the r2 and r3 picks but Bob isn't some Cowboys hater. He breaks both ways and uses his own honest best judgement.

And he is 100% right in that no matter how much Lacewell or Barry had to say, it never should have been mentioned in these press conferences. Larry Lacewell is the one person associated with the Dallas Cowboys I wish I could blink out of existence for all time and have been a fan a very long time. (Ok also Rafeal Septien as a human being so I overstated this a bit but for pure effect on the Cowboys Lacewell is tops, easily)

All that said I would say one day 2 pick can be defended. It is just taken together the 2nd day looks like a failed bit. And the good ole boy taint from Lacewell just makes things all that much worse.

Not sure if anyone noticed but the Dallas Cowboys have no starting FS and the starting LG and LT are unsigned. We played about as bad at CB as anyone in NFL history and yet our answer is to move the failed free safety back to CB for depth.

The draft isn't over and we haven't seen FA but we better really, really hope the players win this legal battle because a salary cap at all or at least one that doesn't grow by a large amount presents very real problems.

The point is Jerry made mention of outsiders instead of his scouts. He thought enough of what those guys had to say that he gave it a special mention when he did not at all need to and probably never should have.

The guy that thought Dwayne Goodrich had legit starting NFL CB talent likes them. OH GOODY!!!!!!! Lemme get my tickets now!

Well, after his blunder of wasting the second round pick with his choice of the best safeties and still some good DB's on the board, and after literally being called a moron in his press conferences, you would think that he would try to redeem himself when he once again had at his selection, good safeties still left on the board. So what does the moron genius do? He selects an unknown college player from a practically high school level play and gets David Arkin??????? Offensive Guard with a grade of 4.5???????????????????

Goodnight Hogan, if you wanted another Offensive Line player, look who was on the clock when Jerruh did his moron tricks:

Cannon, Marcus OL 6'5" 358 TCU 7.1 Video
Ziemba, Daniel OL 6'6" 317 Auburn 6.0 Video
Brewer, James OL 6'6" 323 Indiana 5.7 Video
Hairston, Chris OL 6'6" 326 Clemson 5.5 Video
Jackson, Andrew OL 6'5" 299 Fresno St. 5.5 Video
Love, Demarcus OL 6'4" 315 Arkansas 5.3 Video
Pinkston, Jason OL 6'3" 317 Pittsburgh 4.7 Video

This is why our Cowboys are the new Detroit Lions and why Jerry Jones is supplanting Matt Million and Al Davis as the most stupid GM of the Century

Once again, Sturm makes excellent points. If you require evidence of how poorly the Cowboys have drafted over the past few years, look no further than how often they've retaken the same position year after year. It's a growth-stunter.

Hopefully, Garrett changes this trend.

Lord have mercy.

Somebody, please, slap that silly person. What complete tool he is. Absolutely NOWHERE does it say that Jerry Jones stated, implied, thought, or even contemplated " not listening to his scouts "..

and this guy had press credentials ?
