The clock in Romo's head is not helping things right now. Easy for me to say, but if he was willing to stand in there a tick longer...

Older QBs like getting hit less and less. I wonder if all the injuries has changed his approach too much to focus on self preservation.

It is only human, but it is tough to play QB and never get hit. Peyton Manning has cracked that code. Few others have.

Peyton has had the run of the offense for years and he has built it to MAKE SURE the ball is thrown as quickly as possible. No other offense in the NFL is like it.

With waters gone frankly I think that Romo needs to keep that clock now. That extra half second he was getting is probably gone now

Not surprising. Ever since the broken collarbone and the punctured lung, Romo has been reluctant to physically put his body out there like he did early in his career. He runs upfield less and less and his disturbing habit now of basically ducking down and taking sacks is fairly obvious. Goes with the territory, but it seems he is much more sensitive to pressure now, real and imagined.

First off, who can blame him.

Second, he doesn't do this much. Certainly no more than any other QB.

He keeps plays alive better than most any QB in the league.

Hogwash from a Packer fan. Romo was hit 10 times on 30 passes. How is that not hanging in there?

Sturm always manages to get in a hit or two on Romo. He also sleeps in Packer jammies.

I think the clock in Romo's head links back to the exact amount of time that transpired between the snap and when he was crushed by an unblocked defender. That is the base he operates on. If he doesn't get that right, he's in danger of fumbling the next time it happens, and he knows it will happen again.

I've been saying this for the past few weeks. I don't know the right word to use but the word that comes to mind is "cringing". When he feels the pressure he is trying to avoid all contact and it is effecting some throws. In truth, he might still have hurting ribs.

The guy got rocked the entire game. How could he have stood in there any longer?

There are lots of fair critiques about Romo's play, but the one that always bothers me the most is when people have the nerve to question this guy's toughness. That is by far the most irritating.

I've never seen anyone question his toughness. He is a very tough QB/durable QB.

To me, the clock in his head thing is a remark on his toughness. Maybe not directly, but essentially, its saying he's avoiding hits and not making plays. That's a toughness criticism, imo.

Did not look like he was avoiding any hits on Sunday.

"Romo holds ball too long"

"Romo doesn't hang in long enough"

He can't win no matter what he does.

Wow. Some people say he holds the ball TOO long, now he's getting rid of it too quick?

Sturm is wrong on this one. Period.

Romo was under duress 38 percent of his total drop backs against Lions. In the first seven games, he was under duress on 22 percent of his drop backs.

After he got crushed a few times early on, I thought there was a clear decline in his velocity and accuracy. he just did not look right.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if he was hurting.
But then again, in the 4th quarter he seemed to again have some zip on the ball. Maybe he got a shot at halftime? No idea.

In any case, the dude is a warrior and has taken a total beating the past few seasons. He plays hurt, and sometimes REALLY hurt, and yet in those games (see Detroit two years ago, the Giants week 17 two years ago, and Washington week 17 last year) the expectations are still there to play like nothing is wrong. Well, something was wrong.

Relatively speaking, I think he was fine this past week, health-wise.
And in the end, as funky as he looked at times, he had 3 TDs, 0 ints, a 100+ rating, and an offense that scored 30. Many QBs dream of having a game like that.
That should have been enough.

I am a fan of Sturms and think Romo needs to do things better, but this is not one of them.
