In terms of X’s and O’s, what is the most enjoyable product for you to watch?

Personally I love nothing more than a rabid 4-3 blitzing scheme that has zone and man blitzes designed to destroy a QBs confidence and fragility.

offensively I want tempo. It can be run 50 times or throw 50 times but I want tempo.

I subscribe to the old basketball notion, the better talent you have the more likely they are to win out as possessions increase.

Mike Anderson had a term “90 feet of hell” and I want the next coach to subscribe to “120 yards of hell”. Attacking all game long on both sides and be unpredictable on special teams.

Do that and I can get behind the results but the current product is boring to watch. Bend but don’t break and just beat the man guarding you is awful. Sports is an entertainment business.

I used to think 4-3 was preferenced on defense, however, there are plenty of examples of both 3-4, 4-3, and hybrid defenses all working just fine the NFL. It really comes down to personnel.

A stout defense with a nasty front 7. 2 DT’s that are tree stumps. Ball control offense that will pound your arse into submission come December January. If you can run the ball well when it gets cold that’s hard to stop.

All I care is whatever you’re heavy on,be it run power offense or spread and slinging it,RPOs etc...do it well. It’s not the passing that sucks,it’s that they suck at it that sucks. If Dak is the QB then more balance is best.

I just want a defense that is swarming and attacking and can get off the field on 3rd downs. This bend but dont break is always giving up field position.
I want an offense that can run the ball consistently and has more than one solid RB. And a QB that can complete passes on 3rd and 7+

Style of play is a trap. There is no one style of play that gives you the best chance to win every game. Don't run just or pass because you're "supposed to." Don't run the 3-4 or 4-3 based on some idea of "identity." Make the best use of the players you have based on who the opponent is that week. Team identity needs to be based on general things like toughness, smarts and consistent effort. Mere tactics should change from game to game or you're an idiot.

The triplets weren't just great individual talents, they meshed as a UNIT and could dominate people regardless of the game plan.

People don't give the 1990s Cowboys enough credit for this. MOST OF THE TIME Emmitt was rightly the focus of the game plan, but there were plenty of times where they had Aikman cut loose because the air attack was the right play on that day. Offensive efficiency is obviously a function of the player himself, but having coaches smart enough to adapt the game plan to the opponent can be a big help there too.

Never give a sucker an even break.

My favorite style is when Dallas scores more points than the opposition.

All I know is I hate the current pass interference and holding flags style of play. I hate watching a play where a ball is off target by a few yards but the receiver draws contact trying to adjust to it and draws a flag. I hate seeing an incomplete pass on third and 8 and a holding call on the opposite side of the field creates an automatic first down.

This is more of a league problem than a coaching philosophy problem, though.

Winning style. I want the next coach to pay attention to details and that is able to shift between strategies on a week by week basis.

Enough with the damn we are the better team strategy and have no freaking plan in place to leverage the opponent's weaknesses.

I love a good power running attack that just blows people off the ball coupled with a devastating play action passing game that surgically shreds a secondary

on D— I love to see a nasty, intimidating pass rush, backed up by linebackers that can shed blocks, run sideline to sideline, and LOVE to hit and tackle. Give me some safeties and corners that aren’t afraid to get dirty in defending the run and aren’t allergic to interceptions and I am a happy man.

The key for me is that we are bullies on both sides of the ball. Football is a man’s game. You have to want it more than the other guy, and you have to take it from him. Right now— we have a roster full of athletic little boys

I like to watch Baltimore. On defense they crowd the line of scrimmage, play mostly man, and get after the QB. Their style of defense will give up a big play on occasion. But they also get turnovers and sacks. If you watch that Bills game you'll see what I mean.

On offense they run the ball and use play action a lot when they want to throw. Jackson is a special talent but the Bills defense did a good job of containing him. Baltimore also uses innovative plays to keep the defense off balance. It's hard to know what they are going to do.

They're fast and strong. A very, very good football team. And well coached.

But they aren't overwhelming. They can be beaten. One play at the end going their way and the Bills could have won.

Baltimore is just fun to watch.

Defense: A style of play offenses fear. Consequences for running routes over the middle. The pain train plugging gaps, & QB's afraid to get hit again. Basically, the old Doomsday defense.

Offense: A team that can line up with everyone in the stadium knowing what they are going to do yet, the defense can't stop them. At the same time, savvy enough, I can't figure out where the ball is going pre-snap. Basically, the '92-'95 Cowboys offense. Punishing, cocky, & tougher than most defenses they played.
