Sua-Filo in the 1st if Donald is gone?

I think he's the best OG in this draft. Martin is a top pick because of his versatility but there are guys who will be available later who can also play OT/OG. Sua-Filo would be the immediate starter at OG. That would also give us great depth on the O-line. Berndadeau is a top notch interior OL backup and Parnell is probably a very good backup swing OT. I'm also not opposed to taking Brandon Thomas (out for the season) in the 4th or 5th. He'd miss his entire rookie year but could immediately take over RT when we cut Free next year. Thomas is a guy who would go in the 1st round in next year's draft if he was healthy. Why not take him this year? It would be like getting an extra 1st rounder next year. That would also solidify our OL (starters and backups) for the long-term future:

LT Smith - LG Leary - C Frederick - RG Sua'Filo - RT Thomas
OG/C Bernadeau - OT Parnell - OT/OG Weems

I could see that in a trade down. I don't think it happens at 16.

However I agree with r the idea of Brandon Thomas. Another player in a similar situation is CB Aaron Colvin although not as high.

I don't know too much about him. What round would he be rated if he was healthy?

I like the idea of drafting guys in rounds 4-6 who would normally be 1st or 2nd rounders if they were healthy. Sure, they miss their whole rookie season, but the next year it's like getting an extra high draft pick.

I like the idea a lot as well...kinda like when leary sat out a year and then, along with fred, the OLine got two starters at the same time, and then they brought in waters to solidify things

I would be pissed.

He has a bad body. Bad flexibility. Does not drive or finish blocks particularly well. He has potential and I understand about his mission retarding his development as a player but it is what it is. AT best he could be described as raw.

He was awful at LT when they put him out there.

I would take him with our second round pick and not before. Every year this place overrates the bejeezus out of a guard and X is this years iteration.

Not sure what round but he was considered one of the better CBs going into the season. Just a guy I think would be rated much higher than what you can get him for in this draft due to him having to be put on IR. And I know some don't like the idea of corners being taken highly but if you get a good one in a lower round that is a good thing and with the passing game taking center stage with most teams it is good to constantly be thinking about CBs for your team's future.

If we want an OL in the first I'd only take Lewan (if he falls) or Martin of the players that could be on the board.

Thank god you said this! I watched one game and thought the guy looked almost uncoordinated. Didn't know if I was watching the wrong guy or what.

This is...kind of far from the truth. He came back after 2 years off and was an honorable mention All-Pac 12 Lineman.

He's not who I would choose anymore, though. I don't think we need a guard this year -- we need depth, yes, but I would be looking for a true RT to replace Doug Free. Free is the weak link on this line now. If we get someone capable on the right side, Bern won't have to chip Free's man all game long and we'll be more effective running to the right instead of just running behind Smith the entire game.

Su'a-Filo I would draft in the 2nd, but not the 1st. In a trade down scenario I'm still looking at DE and then DT before I look at OG, and even then in the 2nd I'd take Jimmie Ward, FS, NIU before I took Su'a-Filo.

So I guess we agree for different reasons :p

On mission he did not work out and it showed. Thin legs and arms and a beer gut on a 300 lber is not good looking. His technique is also bad. They talk about natural bend but X has natural standup. It prevents him from getting leverage and driving a guy. He is quick so interior guys cannot just lunge past him but a win for him most games I watched would be standing his guy up and not letting him go.

Untrained and physically undeveloped.
