you can all say the defense needs this and that but the reality is dallas needs a OL. it consists of a center who just finished playing his 1 st full of center, a well-traveled guard(kosier, 3 teams in 5 yrs). a very old, beaten down guard in rivera. a guy coming back from a career threatening injury in colombo. and guy with no lateral movement at all in flozell.

granted maybe 1 change gets done this offseason in the starting lineup, but 2 could shape it for the future not just for now.

and the backups? because parcells loved the red-headed baby eater and procter people on this msg board seem to think mcquinstan can even play. always looking for the bargain. i dont know about any of u but i dont ant a bargain protecting the franchise's cornerstones backside.

it has happened before, but how many faliures have there been? too many to count.

as for the tackles, there really isnt a name out there that makes u get excited about. atleast in freeagency. the one that could get attention is better at guard(davis). so maybe the safer bet is to draft a tackle. a guy like levi brown would be great. not only because he's young big and strong, but the guy can play both tackle spots. if colombo or flo trip up then dallas will have a player to lean on to replace them. its all about having depth, quality depth. not depth that parcells thinks will pan out. because his choise on young OL has helped dallas.

now for the guard i have to think dallas fills thru FA. atleast a smart coach would with the guys available. wel i cant say coach because we all know who will be making personel dicisions in dallas now. u cant blame him either its his money its his team. hopefully the guy has the brain to know parcells cared about 1 thing and that was defense thats it.

out of the guards available

Kris Deilman
Eric Steinbach
Leonard Davis
Wayne Gandy

All of them i hope would be welcomed to dallas but me im thinking theres only 1 guard spot open. and thats rivera. but if u wanted the ultimate backup u would try your damnest to pick up gandy. as he can play 4 spots on the OL.

my first choice would be Deilman, but his price is going to be big, so the next choice IMO would be a big man in Davis. when he was playing guard for the cardinals u would hear his name in the same sentence as larry allen. he's def playing out of posistion.

in 07 my wish list

LT flo/levi brown/gandy 2 of the 3
LG leonard davis
c andre gurode
RG kyle kosier
RT marco colombo

I think it's pretty unrealistic to expect Jerry to go out and overpay again for another vet lineman. Gurode will be re-signed and hopefully so will Columbo. Flozell is a good (not great) LT and will be back and Kosier had a pretty good year. The only question mark is Rivera, who doesn't seem to be able to pull off more than one or two good games a year. I think they need to get another young guard in the draft to challenge Rivera and Proctor, maybe (or even hopefully) a first day guy. Probably not a first round guy. But I don't think brining in another overpriced underperforming vet or dumping another huge bonus on a big name FA is at all likely. If you have enough legitimate guys fighting for the spot somebody will play well. A little continuity, a good offseason for the tackles, and a slightly better performance at RG will make a big difference.

if only u had parcells cellphone number

He did try to fix the OL but how was he supposed to know Rogers and Peterman would be hurt the whole time. He hit on Columbo but I agree he should have done more.

I agree with you and the other million people who say we need a new LG but we cant just stop there.

We need whether its new or old, but we need an OL coach who teach our current and future players something about technique.

We can bring in all the talent in the world to our OL but something is missing and that is a guy who can give our OL direction and push along with some knowledge

That should be noted as: "when he was playing guard for the cardinals u would hear his name in the same sentence as larry allen two years ago when he was with the Cowboys".

The reason I say this is because my biggest issue with Davis is the same one I had with Allen. Effort. Sometimes, they just choose not to give full effort. It's why we released Allen. It must have been a big wakeup call for him since he returned to form in San Francisco. He thought he was bigger than the game and got slapped down and released.

I don't think it's unrealistic to expect anything (one way or the other) at the guard position. Guard is an obvious need and there are 3 highly qualified candidates in free agency. Rarely do you have that many quality candidates hit the market for a big need on the team. Seems kinda silly to pass on extremely young proven guards like Dielman or Steinbach (who was a 2nd round pick) to go with a high risk first day draft pick.

Why waste the draft pick when there are other needs on the team that cannot be filled by free agency, but can be filled in the draft?

We've only been working on this project for 6 years now, and yes it's better, but maybe we will finally get it right.

Need a backup and or a young replacement for Flo.....and Eric Steinbach.

Does anyone know offhand Wade's HC history of building O-lines on his teams?

heres a name from the past that could be signed this offseason and one of parcells biggest mistakes letting him go.

tyson walter, packers arent going to resign him. he was a nice guy to have that could play all 5 posistions. but to make room for scrubs like pettiti, peterman, procter he was cut. damn shame because walter while he isnt starter material he could come in and spot start for a couple weeks.

Peterman was by all accounts considered avery good guard prospect on everyones board. Just did not have "it" (whatever that is). The draft is a crap shoot- you are going to miss on some no matter what. Its just our bad luck that BP missed on his first day O line picks while he did fine to great on all others. Rogers is the only bad pick he made that really is on him. But as far as I am concerned he made up for that by pulling Columbo out of the scrapheap. You guys act like it is SO easy to pick O linemen- its about as easy as picking QBs. Gallery, anyone? Mandarich, anyone? those were two CANNOT MISS PICKS. Rivera was a legitimate PRO BOWL guard when we signed him. Wahle, for those of you with a convienent memory lapse, wanted to play in Carolina and would have taken a LOT more money to get here.
As it turned out he would have been worth it, BUT that is HINDSIGHT. Kosier turned out well and should get better; Columbo as well. Gurode- remember how many RIGHT HERE ON THIS BOARD had given up on him?
As regards the Hotel, he has actually done better then many would have thought coming off an ACL injury. He is not great, but solid. If we can get a good guard to replace Rivera, the line should be much improved next year. Proctor and McQ are good young prospects for the future. Now as regards Petitti, he was a swing and miss- but it was a good pick in the 6th rd; and at one time he was considered at least a solid second rd pick. ANd enough about McNeill; he was passed up by a lot of clubs due to his spinal concerns; the guy could play for another 10 years or he could be gone this year- after the Rogers mess there was NO WAY we were going to take another medical gamble.

Rivera could challenge any O-lineman for the most grass stains on his butt and knees and win by a landslide... Marco is toast, send his butt to the golf greens for good. He is a shell of his former self and needs to retire plain and simple!

Success for an Offense ALWAYS begins on the OL....succes for a defense ALWAYS begins with the D-line.

How many years have I been saying this now?

This entire organization really needs to dedicate this offseason to fixing this OLine. Personally, I think we have a huge weakness, and 2 other positions we could up grade with better talent.
