It has been widely reported that his cap number would be 26.8m + 9.8m= 36.6m if DET franchised him.

My understanding of the Franchise Tag is that it's 120% of his salary, not his cap hit from the previous year. He made 13m in 2014 so his cap hit would be 15.6m(salary) + 9.8m(dead money)= 25.4m

Does anyone know for sure? It would seem to make a big difference in whether or not DET tags him or not. I know it's a long shot that Dallas even looks at him, but I would like to know.

From National Football Post...

The 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) changed how non-exclusive franchise tags are determined. Since its inception in 1993, a franchise tag number had been an average of the five largest salaries in the prior year at a player’s position or 120% of the prior year’s salary of the player, whichever was greater. For franchise tag purposes, salary means a player’s salary cap number, excluding workout bonuses.

If Spotrac is correct, Suh's salary in 2014 was $12.6m (base) + $3.5m (option bonus) + $6.3m (restructure bonus) = $22.4m (cap #)
$22.4m (cap #) x 1.2 (franchise tag) = $26.9 (rounded up)

Thanks, that was an informative article.

27m for one year of Suh is outrageous and to even contemplate it skews his value to an unmanageable number. DET would have to guarantee him at least 27m in compensation for the first year to even get him to the table.
