Pretty good short. I agree with this. We are at the point where the kinks should be getting worked out.
Here’s the problem: the Cowboys brought in players like Locke, Thompson, and JPJ, and were counting on Overshown playing alongside Barham. Several others, including Durant, are out injured. These guys were supposed to be starters, logging heavy snaps, and part of the plan. I disagree that tonight’s game is the one, because the team still doesn’t have its key players back. When you’ve got guys like Bell, James, and Clark out there, and thankfully not starting Stuart but bringing in Bland, you’ll still see unfamiliar faces getting reps in the secondary. It’s hard to play without your main guys—one or two missing you can manage, but this is different. JPJ has a leg or ankle issue he just picked up, and it’s tough to win even if we stop their weak run game, which might look better against us. They don’t need to run anyway; they have a reliable quarterback and receivers with speed who can catch. I saw the Washington player, can’t recall his name, but he can run a deep route past everyone, and that’s the threat with Golden too.
They have good receivers, so running isn’t necessary, nor is it for the Cowboys, who also can score quickly. This team hasn’t found its defensive starters in rotation yet because they’re still sidelined with injuries.
I disagree, and I’m not even going to watch the video because I already know what it’s saying. This team desperately needs its players back.
Yes, they’re working on getting the scheme right and making sure everyone knows their assignments and is in the right mindset, but when you’re missing so many safeties and corners, it leaves a huge gap.
It’s one thing to cover the run game or the box area, but if the opponent can just throw the ball all day, you’ll get worn out.
I’ve heard predictions saying Green Bay doesn’t need to run against the Cowboys, just throw it 50+ times because the Cowboys’ secondary can’t stop it, and I agree.
We have to hope for bad, errant throws that aren’t caught, because that’s the only way this works. If I’m making a game plan, forget the run, maybe sprinkle it in occasionally, but the Cowboys haven’t shown they can stop anything through the air.
They’re playing with backups, and even if JPJ plays, he’ll be on a bad leg and not at full strength. Is he ready for 50 or 60 snaps? This is reality. Until all the starters and key defensive players are back, this defense won’t look like it’s supposed to, and setting up false expectations will only lead to complaints after the game.
