I was at Barnes & Noble yesterday, just to see what books were there. Saw Phil's book and decided to read it. Read the whole thing and it really gave me some perspective.

I recommend this book to everyone.

Phil talks about how watching the game on TV can give you thoughts, that arent necessarily right.

he also said a Game manager type QB is harder to play than, a gunslinger type, or a type that throws the ball alot.

Also talks about Bill Parcells. he seemed like a great coach back in the day. Talked about 1 game where he only ran 5 plays the whole game, the assistant coaches thought he was crazy, then after they won the game, one assistant coach said he has never seen anything like it. It was amazing.

Talks about how people judge quarterbacks, and how people are wrong most of the time. Because fans dont get to see the game film, and a game film is most of the time looks alot different then the tv film.

good book

He is right. Fans don't get the full perspective because they don't have access to game film and which plays are being called. It doesn't mean that fans are usually wrong. Maybe the game film will just strengthen a fan's opinion. Game film is not going to make Rex Grossman a better QB than what he is. A fan may have less to work with, but they can still make decisions based on relative performance between QBs. You see two teams run similar plays and one throws TDs and one throws INTs. It is pretty easy to ascertain that one guy is better.

It is tough to be an NFL QB. What they see or have time to see on the field is not as clear as what can be seen from the stands, on television or on game film. During film study prior to a game, things can easily be pointed out to the QB. Where is the blitz? What coverage are they in? It is different once the ball is snapped and a bunch of guys over six feet tall and around 300 lbs are in front of you while you are going backwards. It doesn't look like that overhead shot from earlier in the week. Most guys are good when you compare them to all the guys who never made it to the NFL. Relative to the other QBs in the NFL, their talents vary quite a bit.

I don't think it is that hard for fans to determine which QBs belong in the good group and which ones shold be in the bad group. It may be hard to rank every single one from a television set and fine tune which guy to select over another, but basic grouping is easy.
