In the director's chair

The NFL and NBC are making this season's Sunday Night Football games available on the Internet. If you're watching the game on a computer, you'll be able to pick your camera angles, go picture in picture, access replays and conjure up game stats. In other words, you're the director of your universe. And it's free.

The Cowboys will make three Sunday night appearances – Sept. 21 at Green Bay, Nov. 16 at Washington and Dec. 14 when the Giants come to town.

The league and the network are calling it a "one-year experiment."

Yeah, and so was broadcasting NFL games in color.

--------

Being able to choose your own angles should be nice.

They should do this for the games aired on the NFL network, not the games I can see on my TV.:bang2:

The nfl should provide games on the internet without having to use programs to watch them.

Why don't they go with a one year experiment by having two sunday night games?

Then they can broadcast the best game and do cut-ins from the second game.

Now they are stuck showing whatever game was scheduled no matter how much it sucks.

Pick your own camera angle? This is something that was proposed years ago and I've been waiting for it every since. I can't stand the tight camera angles tv takes on passing plays.

I think it's a great move and may be a trial run for later use on interactive tv sets. I'd certainly like the option to select my shots/angles but also to be able to clean up the whole damn screen. Too much clutter, and other distractions going on these days, and it's a better exp viewed pristinely.

Sort of off-topic, but speaking of NFLN and satellite and stuff, I was able to talk my way into a free DVR with free installation from DirecTV. I'm not talking about one of those promotions they have. I just called and asked for an upgrade and hopefully some kind of discount. The service rep (Megan) said, "Let me take a look at your account." Since I'm a customer in good standing, she gave me both the $99.00 DVR and the $99.00 installation for free. So if your account is in good standing, you might be able to upgrade your receiver for free by just asking. Just wanted to share that with you guys.

I am guessing this app will crash about every 4-5 minutes. Plus, if the video is anything like the streaming live video I have seen in the past, then the quality will be terrible. I think I will stick to whatever angle the HD broadcast is throwing at my TV.

NEW YORK NBC's 17-game, prime-time Sunday Night Football schedule will also be streamed live on NFL.com and NBCSports.com.

Labeled "Sunday Night Football Extra," it is the first time live, complete NFL games will be available across the U.S. via online streaming.

The live streaming will be a feed from the live telecast on NBC. Complementing the stream will be a number of extra features, including additional camera angles, in-game highlights, picture-in-picture technology, live statistics and other interactive elements.

The streaming will also include in-game studio updates from the NBC Football Night in America team and NFL Network talent.

The first "Sunday Night Football Extra" will be streamed on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m., the night of the NFL opener. All the remaining games will air and be streamed on Sunday nights.

NBC and the NFL said "Sunday Night Football Extra" is a one-year experiment and the NFL will be examining it to gain insights into viewing habits of fans.

"This is an exciting step forward for us as we offer our fans a new way to watch NFL games," said Steve Bornstein, NFL evp, media. "We are combining NBC's outstanding Sunday Night Football telecast with extras that will enhance the fan enjoyment of the game."
