Video | Jerry Jones On Byron Jones & Dez Injuries; Collins At Tackle
Jerry Jones speaks briefly with the media after Sunday's practice in Oxnard.
We're going to rest Byron Jones real good and basically call it a good thing, the way it worked out.
He's going to be OK, definitely OK, and I don't know that it will be as long as a week but he will for sure not practice here within the short term, a couple of days.
That was a scare, yeah, cause we knew, we're sensitive about his shoulder anyway, and when they needed to take him in and take a look, that's real, real scary. It's hard to imagine how far you're fall is when you can jump 46 inches vertical, and you go up and you sky, and your shoulders are higher than your feet, and you come down, that's a jar, isn't it? (laughing)
One of the factors in deciding not to pay DeMarco Murray was allocating dollars to improve the pass rush.
I've already seen Wow! from Greg Hardy, you see his strength, his power, his effort, he's showing his teammates how to play, those young guys are watching his effort and know what kind of skill he has, the other thing is, it's inspirational, not only to the immediate guys, the defensive line, but the entire team, we're getting a lot of great work in, OL vs DL, and his work is impressive out here, it's contagious.
Hardy isn't the SOB Charles Haley is (smiling), I can say that 'cause I love Charles, he's in the Hall of Fame and I love him.
He's a committed winner that's got something to show, number one right now, but loves football, he likes the nuances of the game, he's likes being around the team and doing drills, it shows, as far as the whole package, he's certainly got the perspectiveness that Charles had.
We're going to go slow with Tyron Smith, it's not high or low, it's kind of in that mellon area (?), you've heard it described where it is, it's an area we don't have to go fast on, more than likely, we won't see him until after San Francisco.
As much as anything, Bryan, it's great to see Randy Gregory do the things that you saw at Nebraska, cause you ask yourself, well is this something he can do against that kind of competition, can he do it out here against, certainly against he's practicing against here, and he can, and he's doing it, and the thing is, his coaching, he's taking coaching good, he's showing, he's retaining the technical aspects of what he's doing, we all know if he can do better there, he's got natural gifts, because I know what coaching he's exposed to and how much he's working, I know he's going to improve, but I wouldn't want to ask for too much more than we're seeing from him, as we see it, he's everything I could've hoped for right now.
Repeat question and answer on Byron Jones.
I think Darrion Weems, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt relative to the Chargers game, I think he's very legitimate way to go here as the swing tackle, obviously Doug Free is, we can afford to have the patience to let him come around right.
We've always got those things we aren't doing now, and that's look at any options we might have with 2-3 guys that can play the position, I'm talking about guys that are starting at other positions right now, and of course you know La'el Collins, as we all know Collins has some tackle experience, we got a lot of ways to go, I think where we are right now, I'm planning on, I have no reason to think Doug won't be, health wise, where we think he can be, and that Weems can't get to where we think he can be, at least at RT, and that cures a lot of the question.
