I was wondering how the video board with the open roof was going to work. My question had to do with the giant shadow that it must make during early games, and its effect on the TV coverage.
When Texas Stadium was being designed, Tex Schramm wanted a hole in the roof so that the fans could be out of the elements, but still watch a game being played outdoors. As a result, the contrast on sunny days made it impossible to see both light and dark parts of the field clearly at the same time on a TV screen. I think later he said they'd had the sunlight situation researched, and he was told that the stadium was to be built in such a way that there supposedly wouldn't be a problem for TV.
That stadium's design made for some pretty dramatic shots (Landry's silhouette against the backdrop of game action, a play in which Tony Dorsett appeared to be running in a spotlight), but the sunlight/shade problem obviously did effect TV coverage.
I'm just imagining how the light must be when you take that same open roof design and put a giant rectangle in the middle of it.
